They were both fighting dirty. Taylor was holding and hitting early and every time he did Hopkins gave him a low blow. It was pretty even in the dirty category.
... don't get me wrong, I thought he won and have said so on other threads.
But... how come Ricky Hatton gets slated for "dirty" tactics when Hopkins was almost as bad last night, maybe worse?
Why "worse"? Well, Hatton was in with a fighter who clearly didn't mind or object... even the much-vaunted "whack in the nuts" was retaliatory. Hopkins was doing it to a guy who had such a high regard for the Marquis it was painful. Don't get me wrong, I'm not justifying it, but if Ricky is condemned, then why not Hopkins?
Take my main man Godzhand. Now, he's a cool guy and one Hell of a Prince fan. But Godz, how can you big up Bernie and put down Ricky in the same breath? Hatton gave Zoo a whack on the back of the nut, it's true... but Bernie got in a couple of full-blown whallopers on Taylor last night. That's to say nothing of butting, holding, low blows, yet more rabbit punches...
Come to that, why a "rabbit" punch? Am I missing something? If you put gloves on a rabbit would it smack another rabbit behind the ears or something? Bugs Bunny giving it what for when he gets into a tear-up with Donald Duck?
Anyway, back on topic... Hatton gets slated for mutual dirtiness... Hopkins gets exonerated for dirtiness against a guy who wants to fight fair. What's the big up?
It wasn't Taylor's brother that those comments were directed to. It was Lou Dibella, and Hopkins said something like "I'll beat Taylor and make Lou commit suicide just like his brother did"
Which , to me, is WAY outta line. Even trash talking has its boundaries.
Anorak, this may be a bit off subject, but is Mr. Nuff Tump a bit dirty himself?
If you give me an example I'll give my honest opinion on it. I can't remember, tell the truth... all I can recall off-hand is him going through domestic competition like there's no tomorrow and struggling to catch Hopkins.
Also on a side note, Hopkins didnt fight like an old fightr and Hopkins fought his fight and was no different than any other fight of his.
I agree. What surprised me was how easy it was for Hopkins on the inside. I thought if anyone had an advantage on the inside it would be Taylor who I thought would be a little stronger. They were about equal in strength and Hopkins had his way for the most part in close. I think in a rematch Hopkins should be more aggressive and give Taylor a William Joppy type of beating and stay in Taylor's chest.
