Limerick middleweight Andy Lee 25-1 (KO 15) takes to the ring against American journeyman James Cook 11-3-1 (KO 8) on the undercard of a ESPN2 televised bill this Friday, July 30 at the Buffalo Run Casino in Oklahoma, USA.
It is unlikely that the Lee bout will be televised unless one of the two headline fights ends inside the distance. However, it is a chance for the Manny Steward trained southpaw to extend this record whilst he waits for his bigger fish to be delivered.
Whilst Cook's record has the semblance respectability, the American has only fought twice in the past six years and one of those was a draw in a four-round fight. Cook has however won his last outing against Juan Astorga, a former opponent of John Duddy, by knockout and won six of his eight contests again all by knockout.
The Munster man sees this is purely a "stay busy" fight and told the Irish Daily Mirror's Johnny Stapleton that "I don't know much about my opponent apart from his record. On paper I'm the favourite. I just have to be prepared for everything. I plan to have a look at him in the early rounds then size him up. I will predict a knock-out win, with all due respect, he has been knocked out before so I will try and stop him.”
