These are all the guys that were ranked ahead of Bernard Hopkins between 1990-1994 in that era of incredible depth of talent in the Middleweight's: Michael Nunn, Mike McCallum, Iran Barkley, Nigel Benn, Chris Eubank, Michael Watson, Steve Collins, James Toney, Gerald McClellan, Roy Jones Jr, Herol Graham, Julian Jackson, John David Jackson, Reggie Johnson and Sumbu Kalambay to name just a few. All of these guys were rated ahead of Hopkins and that's just between 1990 and 1994.

Now let's look at 1985-1989 shall we: Marvin Hagler, Thomas Hearns, Iran Barkley, Roberto Duran, Mike McCallum, Ayub Kalule, Herol Graham, Sumbu Kalambay, Sugar Ray Leonard, Michael Nunn. These guys were AWESOME, and that's just off the top of my head.

The depth of talent at 160 in the late 80's and the early 90's especially was frightening, Hopkins was around then and he was not a part of it until the rest either moved up in weight or retired.

Well, you do have a good argument there. But it's not Hopkins' fault that he was the sole benefactor once the greats left. He did get beat by a young RJJ. But that's about his only blemish then. And let's not forget that Philadelphia boxing is a world in it own. They're so competitive there that its hard for a fighter to come out undamaged. But Hopkins, after all these years has not lost one step other than stamina, which no one really knows since he paces his fights so well.

Anyway, you do make a good argument and I certainly won't debate with you since I really can't recall a big fight for Hopkins before the tournement with Echols, Trinidad and Joppy. His loss to Jones does leave a question about how he would fare against Ray Leonard, Hearns and Hagler. Wasn't he in prison during their reign, though?

Hopkins was 41, and was still ultra competitve in that fight, hurting Taylor several times.

It's pompus wounded idiots like you that create that bitter raw raw raw stero-type about Brits.

            Snap out of it.

Thats is correct but let Hopkins jump to Light-Heavyweight let alone cruiserweight and beat a champion until till then he is not better than chris eubank

How long as Calazaghe been champion yet his has not thought anybody of note apart from Eubanks at short noice. So yes u can call him a fraud is was much easy to stay at the same weight and dominate for years just like Hamed did but go up and weight and see what happens that is why they have pound for pound ratings

I can name some Julian Jackson, Gerald McCellan, Nigel Benn, Steve Colins, Herol Graham, Mike Mcallum, Reggie Johnson, he never fought not one of these guys and it was not by chance if u have a belt somebody would want to fight

So Hagler and Monzon never moved up and they are not better than Eubank. What the phukk. The bottomline is Hopkins will always be a top 5 middleweight of all time together with Monson, Hagler and Eubank well next to never. Stop comparing him to Hopkins, they are not on the same breath.

I haven't read the entire thread, but I'm willing to bet that many of the Hopkins haters bet on Trinidad to beat him when they fought. I don't see how anyone can hold that fight as picking on "blown up little guys," because Trinidad was expected to WIN that night.
