Possibly not but the time frames seem a lil close.1 world title shot and what would of become 2 eliminations in a 15mth span.
Thanks to the wbo bump in ranks for penalosa's "courageous heart" against juanma he got another elimination shot against morel.Lost that, now we're back at it again with mares. We dont see now in days too many boxers getting those type of opportunities.Gerry should be smart to realize that he shouldnt be a stepping stone.
They keep him in the mix too much.I respect his heart though
Can't wait to see Mares back in the ring, it looked like he was folding against Perez then he got his second wind and closed that fight strong. He really showed championship heart in those last rounds and I thought he deserved the nod.
Mares leaves a ton of holes in his defense with the style he uses but he never seems to have any lack of focus, he is what i thought victor ortiz would be like. The Ring did a feature on him back in 05, the cover with jeff lacy i been following him ever since.
Everybody else is using money as an excuse, why not Penalosa? He has a name, a decent record, and he's already fought some monsters. He needs to get paid what he's worth and not risk his health for peanuts. Abner Mares is a hard nut for anybody, good move.
Gerry is the finest boxer that ever came out from the Philippines. He was magic when he was in his prime. He still is now despite of his losses from younger fighters.
Although I still want to see more of him, I think he should retire. The fight against Juanma might have been dangerous to his health. He should pass the torch to younger Filipino boxers.
