    Any news of Felix Sturm?

Im curious to know who his next opponent will be. Many sources including boxingscene believe he will fight former WBA/WBC Welterweight champ Ricardo Mayorga (26-7 with 22KO's) but Boxrec claims he will take on former IBF World title challenger Giovanni Lorenzo (29-2 with 21KO's).

I think both fights would be very interesting. Even though Mayorga has 7 losses and is coming off a 2yr layoff, His fights are always exciting and I think his wild style would bring out the best in Felix Sturm. He usually lays back and wins fights with his jab, But someone like Mayorga would make him fight and show all of his skills.

Lorenzo would be interesting because he is a big, thick middleweight who can punch. And he can box also, As of right now he only has 2 losses to Raul Marquez and current IBF champion Sebastian Sylvester. Both of which could be described as controversial. He gave Sylvester alot in trouble in their fight and I would like to see Sturm fight a big dangerous opponent with KO power. Even if he wouldnt get much credit for beating Lorenzo, It would be a very good test after such a long layoff.

Is there any news on his opponent? It's definetly between these two as to who he will fight next. Has there been any news? I expected his opponent to be confirmed by now.

Apart from boxrec and the Mayorga-rumours, all I heard was the Rubio fight and comments that they have a big fight up their sleeve if it falls through, which it did. Something talking about a unification, but I don't think they will fight Martinez. WBO title is vacant, so the only other opponent for a unification would be Silvester again, I am not too thrilled about it.

I think Lorenzo will be his next opponent. And I know triangle theories don't work 100%, but the way Sturm easily handled Silvester tells me that Lorenzo wouldn't stand that much of a chance either.

Rubio was mentioned alot, But it was never confirmed. They want a big name opponent like Mayorga but I don't think that will happen because Mayorga is with Don King. Who always tries to negotiate unrealistic big money deals for his fighters, You are seeing it with the whole Vitali Klitschko - Nikolai Valuev situation. Sturm is done with Universum and is using his own promotional company now, So he doesnt want to give alot of money to the opponent. Especially since this is only his comeback fight, He will unify in 2011 but you dont want a big fight like that after the layoff. He needs a "tune up" fight first.

I don't think the Sylvester rematch will happen, He's only just won the belt and they will want him to have a decent run before fighting elite Middleweights like Sturm/Martinez/Williams, Sylvester also has unfinished business with Karmazin. Lorenzo is a pretty good fighter, You could argue he beat Sylvester and his punching power would make it interesting. I think this fight will happen because Lorenzo won't ask for alot of money and is well known in Germany for his fight with Sylvester.

And it's very winnable for Sturm. Would be a huge surprise if it becomes a close fight.

Looks like it's confirmed: http://www.rp-online.de/public/kompa...n-Lorenzo.html (in german)

          (Translated)

Pro box world champion Felix Sturm will defend his WBA Middleweight title on the 4th of September in Cologne against Giovanni Lorenzo. That reports the Cologne express. Originally the Mexican Marco Antonio Rubio was planned as an opponent. The 29-year-old Lorenzo boxed already in 2009 in Germany for a world title. In new Brandenburg, he lost at a split decision against Sebastian Sylvester, that secured itself therewith the IBF belt. The Sturm management announced now that on Monday the signed contract went in for the Lorenzo battle in Cologne. Sturm is looked after in the Fight by Fritz Sdunek, that stands also in the corner of heavy-weight world champion Witali Klitschko.

I definetly think he will win the fight but I wouldnt be suprised if it was close, Not real close but I can see Lorenzo winning 3-4 rounds. Lorenzo is a big, tough opponent with a good jab and knockout power. And Felix is coming off this year-long layoff but he should win. He's technically better than Lorenzo, It's just a question of how much the time off affected him and whether he will have difficulty making weight. As he has been a Middleweight for his whole career.
