Could Manny Pacquiao Losing to Antonio Margarito Be Good for Boxing?

What if Manny Pacquiao loses on November 13? It’s a simple question, but answering it requires a complicated analysis.

Pacquiao is recognized by many to be the best in world, but that acknowledgment does not prevent him from being upset by Antonio Margarito.

The first thing that probably comes to mind when fans think of the possibility of Pacquiao losing is the absolute evaporation of the chance of a future Floyd Mayweather versus Manny Pacquiao fight.

The way Mayweather totally blew off the most important bout in boxing history for no apparent reason is still beyond me. Therefore, if Pacquiao loses to Margarito, boxing fans can pretty much kiss the possibility of Mayweather-Pacquiao goodbye.

Despite that drawback, could Pacquiao being defeated be good for the sport of boxing?

I mean think about it. No one likes to see a sport absolutely dominated by one team or person, and that’s exactly what has happened to boxing.

Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather have become like the New York Yankees or the Los Angeles Lakers. Mayweather is even more comparable in nature with these teams because like them, he is a person everyone loves to hate.

Nonetheless, although Pacquiao has generated less hate from fans than Mayweather, he is still in the same boat because what fans love to see even more than titans of their sport squaring off, is to see an underdog win.

Why do you think Rocky, the best boxing movie of all time, is so popular?

Another reason Pacquiao losing could be beneficial to the sport is because of the potential for a trilogy.

If Margarito beats Pacquiao, there is no doubt in my mind that Pacquiao would want a rematch. If things go in that direction boxing fan, these two fighters could be reminiscent of the classic Ward-Gatti bouts.

When is the last time we have had a good trilogy boxing fans? We were almost lucky enough to see Diego Corrales fight Jose Luis Castillo a third time, but almost doesn’t help.

The fact of the matter is, we need some excitement in the sport. We need a James Buster Douglas to knockout Mike Tyson.

Margarito has a chance to be the James Buster Douglas of our era, and add a little exhilaration and suprises to the sport.

Margarito, who resides in Tijuana, will have an undeniable advantage since he will most likely be fighting Pacquiao in Monterey, Mexico.

What will happen on November 13, who knows? But we can all at least be thankful that Mayweather-Pacquiao melodrama is over for now.

Regardless of Pacquiaos catchweight demand, I hope it doesn't happen. The last thing we need is cheato rising from the ashes.

I don't know about that, but it'll surely kill any chance of the Pac-Mayweather fight happening.

Pacquiao losing to that cheat would be a **** stain on the sport of boxing. It will look as though Margarito was rewarded for his cheating.

I hope Pacquiao humiliates Margarito on a big stage so he can go back to fighting cab fighters.

My vote is yes cause it would mean that Manny will stay the hell down and fight at 147 or 140 and there are a lot of interesting match ups there for him

Not good at all. That would diminish the only Mega Fight Boxing will have for quite some time.
