I'm against the 150 catchweight for a world championship belt!

But once the media covers the first press conference, the sports world will see Manny and Margacheato stand face to face (5'6 vs. 5'11) and NO sports fan will care about the 150 catchweight!!

This fight was a joke already because of the WBC letting them two fight for the title. Now if it was at 150 for no title I wouldn't mind. But 150+vacant Junior Middleweight WBC title+one guy who has never fought at 154 therefore didn't earn the title shot at that weight class+a cheater(Margarito)=complete joke fight and black eye to the sport of boxing.

I don't understand. I have read on NSB that Mayweather and Cotto were "too big" for Pac at 147lbs. But Margarito is okay for 150? Also, Foreman is "too tall" at 5'11, but Marg at 5'11 is okay, as well.

Someone please explain. Sounds like a BS cherry-pick to me.

It seems to me that the Pacquiao-Cotto fight was not at catchweight. The range for Welterweights is anything higher than 140 and 147 lbs., the latter weight serving as the ceiling. Pacquiao weighed 144 while Cotto came in at 145lbs.--both well within the range.

The confusion may have resulted from the insistence of the Pacquiao camp to reduce the ceiling to 145, an insistence that resulted in the agreed weight limit for the fight, which is close to the middle of the Welterweight range. For that reason, the legitimacy of the fight being recognized as a world title tiff can scarcely be put to question.

Some who may not be aware of this tidbit from history may find it interesting if not outright disconcerting: Sugar Ray Leonard defeated Donny Lalonde back in 1988 and won 2 titles in 2 weight divisions: Lalonde's WBC LightHeavy crown and a bonus WBC World Super Middleweight title. Leonard weighed 165, Lalonde 167. Now, that's catchweight. And, yes, an atrocity.
