Allan Green: “Kessler won’t last 12 rounds”

Allan Green says he will become the first to stop Mikkel Kessler:

    by Philip Michael Shange

Come Sept. 25, Allan Green will be the new WBC king - at least according to himself.

Champion Mikkel Kessler will defend his throne in Denmark against Green in the third stage of Showtime’s Super Six World Boxing Classic. And the challenger is looking for the knockout.

“I don’t see Kessler lasting the whole fight,” Green (29-2, 20 KOs) told Danish TV-station TV2. “Unless he brings something new to the table..”

Green – who entered the tournament as a late replacement for Jermain Taylor – is coming off a lopsided defeat to WBA champion Andre Ward. Despite the loss, Green is still in the running for a semifinal berth.

“That’s what I’m looking for,” he said. Mathematically, Green still has a shot. A knockout victory gives the winner three points, whereas a decision win yields only two. Five of the six participants are deadlocked at two points apiece, so he must claim the title by knockout.

But Green is facing some tough odds.

The iron-chinned Dane has never been stopped before – nor has he ever hit the canvas. Aside from the knockout factor, the odds get increasingly grimmer when one consider the fact that no visiting fighter has yet to pick up a victory in the Showtime tournament.

So if history is any indication, Green will leave Denmark empty-handed. Still, Green said home-field advantage will play no role in the matchup.

“It doesn’t matter to me where I fight,” he said. “In my opinion, it’s a coincidence that all the fighters fighting at home have won every fight. I have no problem coming to Denmark to face the champion of the world.”
Champion Kessler (43-2, 32 KOs) is coming off a Fight of the Year-candidate against Carl Froch in which he recaptured the WBC belt.

Green.....if you have such a hard time making 168, how are you going to be any better against Kessler than you were for Ward? You did not even show up for the ward fight but just stood there for 12 rds collecting a check.....

He will quit after the first or second round and just try and survive, like he always does.

i thought he would have gotten enough of all the pre-fight trash talking. he already said what he was going to do to andre ward and i saw nothing of that in the fight and now he says he's about to knockout mikkel kessler?

one thing about kessler's european style: if you're their to be hit, he's going to hit you. as soon as that jab gets to pumping and kessler develop's a nice rhythm, the dane's straight right hand will start landing repeatedly.

no surprise there, he cant win a decision in denamrk anyways.

i wouldnt completely count him out to beat kessler though.

                    1. yes green folds rather than adapts when things go against him, but so does kessler.
                    2. ward was a higher class than green but ward is a level above kessler too, kessler-green however is on even terms though. the ward fights for both men kind of cancel eachother out, neighter man is simply on his level.
                    3. kessler has a far diffrent style from ward, hes there to be hit and although only one part of greens game is truly world class imo, thats his power. kessler never fought anyone with the explosive 1 punch KO power that green has.

to me this is a toss up, one fighter will likely get knocked out or go into survival mode and lose a wide decison. but it could be eighter one imo. after his all but impressive win over froch ppl are back to overrating kessler horribly.
