Facing Cotto would be very hypocritical of Mayweather

Mayweather himself admited that Cotto got beat over the head with bricks, even used that to discredit Pacquiao's win over Miguel Cotto. So why would he try to feed off of Margarito's, Clottey's and Pacquiao's remains? That doesn't make sense to me, this isn't even a credible opponent, especially at this time. Just don't see the competitiveness in this bout, it's useless.

I hear a lot of people on here saying that Mayweather-Cotto has always been their dream match. Well guess what, being a long time Bernard Hopkins fan I always wanted to see a B-Hop vs. Roy II and even though we may have gotten it, we actually missed it. Know what I'm saying? So the same applies to this matchup, no offense to Cotto.

Again, I know this is all speculation, but I'm only giving my thoughts incase this does happen. If this does go down, don't expect me to direct any of my attention to this, I'll be looking into other things.

I completely agree with you. This move by Mayweather would be hypocritical in a number of different ways. I wouldn't respect this fight. I never thought that Cotto had much of a shot to beat Mayweather before his fight with Margarito simply because he got hit too much. Now in 2010, I would give him half the shot that I was giving him back then.

Making this move would be a double edged sword for Floyd. If Cotto negotiated without Arum and made the easily, it will make a stronger message that Arum wont let his fighters fight Floyd. On the other hand, Floyd will get criticism since he fought Cotto instead of Pac.

I agree but it may just be a way to ensure he gets a higher split of the money at the next round of negotiations against Pacquiao. If he gets better PPV buys against Cotto that Pacquiao did I find it hard to believe that Manny could argue a 50/50 split.

Pacquiao dont want to fight him.

So Floyd has to look elsewhere for a fight. Cottos the next biggest draw so the next best option.

yes, when mayweather said he wasnt interested in boxing when he was asked about manny... but then proceeded to negotiate with cotto less than 5 days later it made it clear that Manny ducked him.

Mayweather made his demands clear he wants OSDT with no cutoff date.

He doesnt want to negotiate with Pac until these terms are agreed to.

I have no doubt that Cotto would agree.
