Pacquiao says he’ll fight Margarito between 147-150
    July 22nd, 2010

By Chris Williams: WBO welterweight champion Manny Pacquiao appears to be happy that he could be facing Antonio Margarito in his next fight. Pacquiao said “That’s good,” about a possible fight against Margarito by an interviewer from Aba-cbnnews.com. Pacquiao, 31, would be facing Margarito for the vacant World Boxing Council junior middleweight title. But here is where it gets weird. Pacquiao says “I’ll probably fight him [Margarito] at 150-147 pounds. Around that weight.” Excuse me but if Pacquiao fights Margarito at 147-150, that would be a huge catch weight for Pacquiao to be fighting at, since the junior middleweight division goes up to 154. 147 is the welterweight limit. There has been talk of a catch weight for this fight and you have to wonder whether it will fall into the range of 147-150. How in the heck is Pacquiao going to be fighting for the vacant WBC junior middleweight title when he’s weighing only 147?

It’s not so much what Pacquiao weighs in a fight with Margarito; It’s that Margarito would have to drain down to 147 to be fighting for the WBC junior middleweight title. Anything is possible, but doesn’t it seem strange for a fighter to be fighting for a title at one weight when the catch weight for the fight would be in whole different division? That seems kind of unfair, but whatever. I seriously doubt the catch weight would be 147, though. More likely it will be around 150, but that still seems so wrong. If Pacquiao wants to fight for a title, he should fight at the full weight instead of using a catch weight to give him a better chance of winning. If he’s too small to fight for the title, then he’s too small and shouldn’t be fighting for it.

Pacquiao has this to say about fighting Margarito for the WBC junior middleweight title: “No problem. I’m excited to fight in Mexico. It will be the first time I’d fight there.” We still don’t know whether the Pacquiao-Margarito fight will be held in Mexico. There’s still an outside chance that it could take place in Abu Dhabia. However, since Bob Arum is traveling to Monterrey, Mexico, that’s where it’s likely going to be taking place.

Margaret will agree to any of Pac's conditions because he has no leverage.

...but it's hard to conjure up any empathy for Margaret.

Margo's comeback fight was at 154, but he said after that fight that he would likely be returning to 147, and that was well before he was mentioned as a possible next opponent for Paq. Why wont you people give up on this "Paq drains his opponents crap". He has only done it once, and that is if you call two pounds against Cotto drained. You cannot accuse him of draining DLH because DLH had agreed to fight Floyd at 147 before Paq ever came into the picture.

I'd be surprised if they asked for a catchweight too.

They fought at 154. Have you ever tried to make weight? It can be extremely taxing. Two pounds south of the WW limit did not help Cotto. I don't know if or how much it hurt him, but it certainly did not help him.

i think that was more of cotto wanting to be a gentleman and not take anything away from pac.
