It's because he holds several world titles. Chambers was his WBO mandatory, while Povetkin was his IBF mandatory.

Peter has now replaced Povetkin as Wlad's IBF mandatory.

There will not be another WBO mandatory until 2011, although Povetkin is currently ranked #1 contender by the WBO. Perhaps he'll be demoted by the WBO too, and Adamek will become #1 if he defeats Grant.

Wlad is planning on a third fight in 2011: a voluntary defense of his titles in December, perhaps against Adamek, Solis or Arreola.

I cant see Arreola, I could see a rematch with Austin over Arreola. Arreola's next fight pretty much has his career on the line. You cant give him a fight after losing 2 fights in the last 18 months. Solis? Supposedly he wont even pick up the phone. Adamek is the only logical one, but if you ask me its a huge mistake by Adamek's people. He is an undersized HW and Wlad is just too skilled to let him inside and even if he does get inside he doesnt have the power to take Wlad out. People talk about Wlads chin, but he always gets up. Always, you dont just have to hurt him or knock him down, you have to be relentless or wear him out. I feel like his stamina is much much better now.

The crazy thing is, Wlad has been more healthy than Vitali and Vitali doesnt even lose a round at 39. If his bro is any indicator, Wlad might not start tailing off until after 40. I mean if he keeps fighting 3x a year for the next 5 years, he could wind up with 70 wins in his career. Barring injury, I see no one out there, or even on the horizon that I think could compete with Wlad.

                W. Klitschko, Peter agree to fight terms

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and former titleholder Samuel Peter will meet in a rematch on Sept. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany, their representatives told ESPN.com Wednesday.

                By Dan Rafael ESPN.com

Heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko and former titleholder Samuel Peter will meet in a rematch on Sept. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany, their representatives told ESPN.com Wednesday.

"The Sam Peter thing has been agreed to," Top Rank's Bob Arum, Peter's promoter, said. "They're coming into the [Las Vegas] office to sign [on Thursday]. It was a relatively easy negotiation." Bernd Boente, Klitschko's manager, told ESPN.com in an email, "We found an agreement which is not signed yet, but hopefully [Thursday] so that we can send out a press release."

Boente said they were planning a Monday news conference to formally announce the fight, which will take place at the 55,000-seat Commerzbank Arena.

Peter emerged as the likely candidate to land the fight last week after Alexander Povetkin, one of Klitschko's mandatory challengers for more than two years, withdrew. Peter was next in line in the IBF's rankings.

Povetkin had been scheduled for the fight after K2 Promotions, Klitschko's company, won a purse bid for $8.313 million. However, there has been an ongoing power struggle between Povetkin's promoter, Sauerland Event, and his trainer, Teddy Atlas, who did not want Povetkin to take the fight, felling that he was not ready. Povetkin listened to Atlas, who is also ESPN2's ringside commentator on "Friday Night Fights," and pulled out of the fight.

Klitschko (54-3, 48 KOs) and Peter (34-3, 27 KOs) first met in a 2005 title elimination bout at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Peter scored three knockdowns, but lost each round that he did not drop Klitschko and lost a decision.

Seven months later, Klitschko knocked out Chris Byrd in the seventh round to win a title and has made eight defenses while picking up other belts along the way.

"Peter came close last time. This time he has the experience that if he gets Klitschko in trouble again, he can finish him," Arum said. "If Peter happened to upset Klitschko that would really start a lot of talk in the heavyweight division." Said Boente, "This is a very interesting fight especially with the history of the first one in 2005. By the way, we have already sold 15,000 tickets in the Commerzbank Arena in Frankfurt without an opponent."

Arum would not divulge terms of the deal, but the financial package for Top Rank and Peter is certainly less than the slightly more than $2 million Povetkin was due under the terms of the purse bid. Arum said they agreed to give Klitschko a rematch clause in the event he loses.

Besides an opportunity to avenge his loss to Klitschko, Peter can also make up for a poor performance against his older brother, Vitali Klitschko, who stopped Peter in the eighth round and relieved him of his title in Germany in 2008.

"We're going [Thursday] morning to sign. We're good to go," said Ivaylo Gotzev, Peter's manager. "My prediction has always been the same if we got a rematch. This time we're going to finish the job and not leave it to the judges' scorecard. We are going into the lion's den to take him out."

                  from fight news:

Peter Signs For Wlad Fight - The Rematch Is On!

The Nigerian Nightmare, heavyweight Sam Peter, today signed a contract to fight for the world heavyweight championship. Peter will take on IBF Champion Wladimir Klitschko on Sept. 11 in Frankfurt, Germany. Peter signed his contract in the Top Rank headquarters in Las Vegas. Bob Arum made the announcement today.

Peter won an IBF Eliminator fight when he stopped Nagy Aguilera in Texas on March 12. Peter was impressive, charging after and stopping Aguilera with a series of hard right hands in the second round.

The fight against Wladimir Klitschko is a rematch. In 2005 in Atlantic City, NJ, Peter knocked down Klitschko three times — twice in the fifth round, another in the 10th round — but lost a decision. The scoring was 114-111 on all cards.
“Klitschko knows who won that fight. This time I am going straight in and take him out,” Peter said. “It’s not going to last real long.”

Peter’s chief trainer Abel Sanchez said “…boxing has been searching for real excitement in the heavyweight division. Sam Peter will be that excitement. We’re going there to take out Klitschko, like real early.”

Peter, 29, has a record of 34-3 with 27 knockouts. He is a former WBC Heavyweight World Champion.

Ivaylo Gotzev, manager of Peter, said the challenger will leave this weekend for a press conference in Germany. Peter will then return and resume training in Big Bear, Calif.

Peter was born and raised in Akwa Ibom, Nigeria. “I punched hard while growing up in Nigeria,” Peter said. “A big punch can turn around a fight real quick.”

Yes, Peter's did KO Aguilera in an eliminator but here is the thing. Even in that fight he came in plodding at his opponent at a relatively slow pace. Peter's needs to get in great shape so he can be very aggressive against Vlad .... then he may have a chance ...... if not Vlad will see everything Peter has to offer and avoid most of his punches.

I hope Peter's comes in good shape ...... imagine, I'm talking about a guy who is going to fight for a title and hoping he gets in shape .... crazy man!!!

Peter looks good in the photos I've seen.

This is actually a dangerous fight for Wlad. Peter is a very good heavyweight when he's in shape.
