Do Cuban professional boxers have a big fanbase?

I know Cuba has produced the most and best Olympic boxers in the last few years. Do boxers like Yuriorkis Gamboa, Erislandy Lara, and Guillermo Rigondeaux have strong fan followings? Since they defected is there much fans to support them?

You expect one of the 10 people in Cuba that actually have a computer to answer this thread?

No I was just wondering does anyone know if Gamboa and Rigondeaux pack the house when they fight and has there ever been a big PPV star out of Cuba?

I'm pretty sure Casamayor is the only Cuban to fight in the main event on a PPV.

Gamboa's fanbase is getting bigger and bigger each fight. Neither him or Rigondeaux are huge stars yet. What kind of answer are you looking for...

These guys get alot more notoriety because they are from a good amateur background and how well the Cuban team has been. But in the past there have been alot of others, Ramon Garbey, Jorge Luis Gonzalez, Casamayor and Diosbelys Hurtado. Some did good and others have failed.

Cuban fighters do have a fan base. A huge fanbase at that!!! Just like every other nationality who backs their own. Only thing is they do better as amateurs than as pros. Casamayor has been the best in recent years. And hopefully Gamboa will surpass that. But over all, They have not been what we have expected!!!!

Well, they have big followings in Miami, which is like Cuba in America and hence the reason most of them live there....Which, funnily enough, usually causes much of their downfall.

Diobelys Hurtado also fought on many huge cards against big names. Hell, he was a big name (not big like Pac, Mayweather, Cotto etc obviously but still one of the top guys for a long time) at 140 for many years.

I just dont think Cuban fighters get the trained that well and therefor the good amatuer experience fighting eachother they need once they get to the pros .

they do have a pretty decent fanbase but cubans dont have anything close to a fanbase that puerto rican frighters or mexican fighters have, as far as ethnic fanbase. i know gamboa has a pretty decent fanbase and keeps growing by each fight just like someone mentioned before as far as lara and rigo they still have work to do. lara doesnt have the fan friendly style that gamboa has and its not as talented and athletic as rigondeaux but might still doo his thing. i think the more popular out of the recent defections will be rigo and gamboa
