Floyd Mayweather could have quite possibly made the situation even worse for himself

Logically thinking right now, beating pacquiao would have easily enhanced & sealed his legacy however choosing not to fight him has left him in a awkward situation in my opinion.

    And heres WHY:

    - Pacquiao will probably fight Margs and pound him. This would be classed as a descent win on his record whilst Mayweather is sat at home denting his legacy.

    - Mayweather doesn't plan to fight this year by the looks of things which leaves him a step behind Pacquiao.

    - Mayweather not fighting Pacquiao could lead to a fight with Martinez/Williams who are equally as dangerous as Pacquiao, espcially Williams who is gunning for a fight with Mayweather right now.

    - Fans would be probably pissed if Mayweather was to fight Bradley/Berto next rather than a showdown with Martinez/Williams.

So my point is has Mayweather dug himself a whole? He quite possibly could be fighting Williams or Martinez next because i have no doubt boxing fans will claim he is ducking these two to if he doesn't. Williams is extremely dangerous as is Martinez, they are both HIGH risk fighters that Mayweather doesn't want anything to do with!

    What do you think?

even though williams & martinez would be a good test for anyone, I don't think the fans will accept anything from floyd other than pac and for that reason, i see him sitting out for a year until part III negotiations begin.

Any fight between top elites is always welcome. Sure, some more than others but the scarcity of fights leaves us hungry for more.

if pac/marg does worse ppv sales than pac/clottey, then point to mayweather.

if pac/marg does close to ppv sales as pac/cotto, then point to pac.

        - Mayweather doesn't plan to fight this year by the looks of things which leaves him a step behind Pacquiao.
pac has already regained the p4p #1 spot in some p4p lists. if floyd is inactive, this trend may continue.

        - Mayweather not fighting Pacquiao could lead to a fight with Martinez/Williams who are equally as dangerous as Pacquiao, espcially Williams who is gunning for a fight with Mayweather right now.
I seriously doubt floyd will fight martinez or williams. although if he did, that would trump pac/marg and pac/cotto fights. this imho would be a good move on floyd's part even though the money would not be worth the risk. it would show the boxing public that floyd isn't scared of anyone because he's taking on such dangerous opponents for so little reward. also if floyd doesn't perform up to par, he can always give the excuse that he's really a 147 lber.

        - Fans would be probably pissed if Mayweather was to fight Bradley/Berto next rather than a showdown with Martinez/Williams.
I think berto would be an acceptible opponent. bradley less so. but both have no fan bases and lack the risk, and also there is no excuse of size difference should they prove to be too difficult for floyd. if floyd can't dominate a 147 lber, that will look bad. if floyd can't dominate a 140 lber, that will really really look bad.

So my point is has Mayweather dug himself a whole?
        pretty much.

well, you can't duck someone that isn't in your weight division.

Williams is extremely dangerous as is Martinez, they are both HIGH risk fighters that Mayweather doesn't want anything to do with!
yep, most like floyd will fight khan next year in the UK or Alvarez in Vegas.

No point in even mentioning Paul Williams as an opponent for Floyd or for Pac.

Good idea of a thread. PBF might as well just fight Pac, because to fight someone else and get the same kind of credit as he would for beating pac, he would have to fight a very good opponent.

So he might as well fight the p4p no1. Any fight will be hard so why not Pac instead of martinez or williams? He could possibley beat Williams. But it doubtful whether he would get as much credit for beating him than he would for beating pac.

Is Williams still picking on the smaller welterweights?
