Should fighters rest one year between each fight ?

I trained with pros, we had the same trainer, i didnt want to do a boxing career because in Montreal in those days you wouldnt make enough money to live, you had to work at same time and you had no rest from training because you had to be ready that last minute fight ! So, when i see some rich babys asking for some long rest, i just cant believe it ! My answer is a big NO

They can do whatever they want.

That is the beauty of a solo-sport, athletic career. You can do whatever the **** you want and make a ton of money doing it.

Every fighter is different. My instinctive answer is no though. Boxing is a young man's sport. While you have all your physical attributes and skills either at their zenith or still improving, you need to be as active as you possibly can be. Fighters coming off really violent wars, nursing injuries, or having conditioning problems are wise to take a layoff in between fights to get back to 100%. Otherwise, fighters are better off being busy.
