I never thought that Tua would have any trouble with Barrett, since Barrett was almost done, although he is very brave and throws punches regardlees of what may be coming back .

BUT, when a fighter is coming back from a looooong layoff, like Tua had, everything can go wrong until he gets himself in the groove again. In this fight the deducted point and the KD were the important factor to making the draw, but the fact that it was a draw, and not a vicious KO for Tua, is a big disappointment for those who want to see more action in the heavyweight divison. And that includes ME.

Something else about boxing but not about this fight. I saw the Augustus-Mayweather fight again, and it was a very good showing by Emanuel, He gave Mayweather all he could handle and shows us again, that this was his toughest fight, even though Emanuel had nearly 20 losses at the time.

ONE QUESTION to anyone out there who might know; In the Augustus -Herman Ngoudjo (sp) fight, it also was terrific, but Emanuel was behind on the charts. However, in the 12th rd he went after Herman like a champion, knocked him down and punished him so much that the ref stopped the fight. Herman was as done as an over-cooked steak.

YET, in BOXREC, the fight is shown as a UD loss to Emanuel, with only one explanation, that the ref stopped the fight when the round ended, So Emanuel lost, when he had Herman abolutely helpless, and the fight in his hand.

Can anyone shed some more light on this fight, I'd appreciate it. Thank you.

I recall that Sugar Ray Robinson had lost a lt.heavyweight title fight to Joey Maxim though winning well on points when he was struck by heat prostration ans dehydration. After staggering through the rd, and collapsing when he swung a missed punch, then retiring.

This loss was marked down as a KO, (his only KO in over 170 fights) although it really wasn't.

He made a comeback about 2-3 tears later, and in the second fight of his comeback he lost badly to a good journeyman, Tiger Jones. YET, he still had his history-making fights with Gene Fullmer and Carmen Basilio in the future.

So, here's hoping that Tua gets back on track, even at age 37.......hmmm.

Hello, does anyone have an answer to my query in letter #2, about the Emanuel Augustus-Herman Ngoudjo fight, where Augustus stopped Herman in the 12th, but it goes down as a LOSS. Could the ref have stopped it because the round was over?? Herman was absolutely out on his feet, have also been KD'd for a long count.

Where's Cliff Rold when I need him??? I'd appreciate it.

HELLO- Does anyone have an answer to my query in letter #2 about the Augustus-Ngoudjo fight, in which Herman, although winning on points, was heavily KD'd in the 12th, and, barely staggered up, at a 9 count. Then he was was chased all around the ring taking a bad beating. The ref stopped it, as I thought I saw, and he should have stopped about 15-20 seconds earlier. I couldn't understand what he was waiting to see, Herman was a completely done, and taking a very bad beating.

If the ref was late deliberately, this whole fight, and the decision, were in tune with the many other times in which, as Floyd Mayweather said in discussing Augustus's high level of skill, after THEIR fight, "that many decisions were stolen from him".

And I think we all agree on that!

Sorry folks, don;t know what's happening with my posts, it looks as if they are sometimes being published with a short delay. this has just occurred.

When I didn't see my post, I sent in another one, and, LO and BEHOLD, they both turned up.

Perhaps my computer, a new laptop, is playing games with me again, as it sometimes does.
