how does a southpaw fighter have an advantage over a conventional fighter?

i dont understand this theory that southpaw fighters have an advantage over a fighter who fights in the conventional stance?
is it cause the southpaw's right hook would be more effective than the conventional fighter's left hook?

    exaplain this to me...

a much higher percentage of fighters are orthodox as apposed to southpaws. orthodox fighters are going to be used to seeing other orthodox fighters and southpaws are also going to be used to seeing orthodox fighters but orthodox aren't going to be used to seeing southpaws as much. same logic goes for southpaws fighting southpaws...they don't see other southpaws as much so they won't be used to the angles and whatnot.

Dude pretty much answered it as best as anyone could.

It's all about familiarity. Most of the population is Right-handed.
