I truly believe Bob Arum tried to avoid JMM for years.

I think the only reason he got the rematch to begin with was because Arum thought he was old, seeing that he clearly beat, but struggled with a Barerra that Pacquiao won basically every round against. Arum thought he was relatively easy pickings for Pacquiao, since he was older and slower than he was in the first fight.

We all knew that blew up in his face, and Manny came a hair away from losing, and in many of our minds did in fact lose the scrap. After that when a trilpgy was considered ig money the fight still never came close to happening even though it could have at 135 when both were there. Pacquiao has no fault in the matter, but Arum has avoided Marquez like the plague, but only gave him a shot when he looked shot only for it to blow up in his face, which led to him avoid any other Marquez fight after that.

      not really.

marquez was the one that turned down the immediate rematch when he was with top rank and pacquiao wasn't yet.

marquez-pacquiao would have happened sooner except golden boy was suing top rank.

that's why it took the barrera rematch just as long as the marquez rematch.

unless you think pacquiao was ducking barrera too.

Is there a link for that?

Cause I thought Pac was the one that didn't want a trilogy with JMM.

i'm talking about after their 2004 match which was a draw.

hbo offered $1.5 M (a lot of money for both fighters at the time since they weren't ppv fighters yet) for an immediate rematch. they were to split it 50/50.

marquez wanted $1.5 M just for himself when hbo was only offering that much total.

pacquiao ended up fighting morales. marquez ended up fighting nobodies before losing his belt to chris john.

                    the rest is history.
