Arum won't risk JuanMa just yet. Gamboa is a very risky fight and JuanMa has to be milked for his star potential for a while before a really dangerous fight, hence no Caballero nor Gamboa for a while
So Juanma left HBO/Gamboa for Showtime/Rafa Marquez...

why post when you have no clue what your talking about? this fight is being put on hold by arum for next year either in the new giants stadium or the day before the pr parade. he was interviewed and basically said **** the fans i will make this fight when the most money will be made. if you want to say juanma is ducking cab then you might have an argument but not gamboa.Comment

I dont think that fighting Rafa is cherry picking. Its a good payday and a big name on his resume should he win. And Juanma isnt a sure thing, it will take more than one blistering combination to blow out Rafa. This is a guy who almost lost a game of survivor to Rogers Mttagwa, Im interested to see how he fairs against the winner of the Vasquez-Marquez survivor. You know, Juanma is really good at catching guys during the exchanges. He doesn't really open up until his opponent opens up or until he's got his man hurt. That's why he's been able to blast wild punchers like Concepcion and Ponce de Leon outta there so fast. He was able to match them with speed and his better technique allowed him to land his power shots without getting caught during the exchanges (except for the one lucky shot by Bernie).
Gamboa is noticeably faster than Juanma and he appears to at least match him in terms of power. It's a very dangerous fight for Lopez. I not sure if Juanma and his team want to deal with that little monster from Cuba just yet. Personally, I feel this was the reason for the move back to Showtime. Usually when fighters are winning they move TO HBO. Juanma came from Showtime, to HBO and now it's back to Showtime for him. I don't think he liked what HBO had planned for him. Regardless, I like the Juanma vs Rafa match-up. But I think Juanma may have done a little cherry picking here. Anyway, hope it's a great fight, I'll be watching.Comment

I love JuanMa on Showtime. Much better than the low budget Top Rank PPV's that are $40-50...
He'll headline an HBO PPV sometime next year against Gamboa I'm guessing...Comment

You're right, not really cherry picking in that Rafa is no cherry, but picking nonetheless in that he (they, TR, Bob, whoever) chose the older, smaller and war-torn fighter as opposed to the guy everyone, including HBO wanted him to fight... Yuriorkis Gamboa. But yeah, he and Gamboa are TR fighters so Bob is the one behind all this.I dont think that fighting Rafa is cherry picking. Anyway, you can't go wrong with a quality Mexico vs Puerto Rico scrap in mid September. Hope it's a good one. Rafa's got Daniel Zaragoza training him now, so I think they'll survive Juanma's early power shot assault and look to take the youngster into deep water. We'll see what he's made of if it goes beyond 6.Comment

This is Juanmas first fight with showtinme. He was calling out Marquez since he became champ, so in order to get Marquez he had to move to showtime for a couple of fights, because Marquez is a Showtime fighter. You know, Juanma is really good at catching guys during the exchanges. Sure u right. Look at last weekend. Had good cards both Friday and Saturday. 4 fights, every one of which was worth watching. Maybe they don't have the budget HBO does and so they get second pick of alot of possible matchups, but this forces them to be creative. Most Showtime cards end up being as entertaining and relative as most HBO cards.Comment
