Viloria had one of the most promising professional careers coming from the amateurs and he was well on his way to superstar status after he captured his first title and was being featured on US cable networks like Versus. But his title defense and rematch against Omar Nino Romero revealed fatal flaws in his armor. Viloria, similar to fighters like Zab Judah, has the habit of fading in the later rounds.
A lot of that is attributed to focus and training. The former two time light flyweight champion, found himself in the middle of a war, three weeks before his scheduled comeback fight against Omar Soto in the Philippines. According to internet reports, Brian’s coach and trainer of four years, Robert Garcia, had left his camp after a disagreement with his manager regarding moving his fight. Viloria was under the weather for a few day and lost valuable training time prompting Garcia to request for their fight to be moved back a couple of weeks in fears that Viloria might suffer a similar fate he did in his last fight.
