Comments Thread For: Photos: Juanma vs Marquez Announced For September 18

SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO - After mastering his Filipino challenger, Bernabe Concepcion, with a spectacular knockout in the second assault, Juan Manuel "Juanma" Lopez, the featherweight champion of the World Boxing Organization (WBO), sat at the post-fight press conference and addressed the biggest fight of his career, when he defends the title against Rafael Marquez on September in Las Vegas. Hmmmmmm. Interesting details to read to go along with those photos. So if this fight by some miracle falls apart we know it won't be Rafael Marquez's fault since his ink is dry on the contract huh? Is Lopez and Arum having second thoughts about this after seeing of how the crude Concepcion was able to knock Lopez on his ass and Arum is just saying this fight will probably happen to save face?

I think the fight will go down but Rafeal Marquez must be licking his chops after seeing Lopez dropped by Concepceion. Should be a good scrap if Marquez can handle being at featherweight.

Yeah, Marquez I'm sure is really confident about winning the fight. And if he does, he should get all the credit in the world for it. I know I talk a lot of **** about Juan Ma, but he is an undefeated champ in his prime and this beats the hell out of the way JMM is going out by fighting Juan Diaz after he's been beat by countless people including JMM himself. And it looks like Barrera might possibly beat JMM to the punch when it comes to becoming a four division champ if he beats Soto. I don't know the details of the offer JMM got to fight Khan, but it looks weak on his part when a guy who is viewed as more shot than he is fighting a better fighter (which Soto is better than Diaz in my view) than JMM.

I know this is a Rafa-Juan Ma thread and I'm bringing other fighters that may not be connected to this. But that's all relevant because people compare the greatness of Rafael and Juan Manuel Marquez. Rafa should get the edge if he beats Lopez unless JMM can do something to trump that.

Rafael Marquez still has alot left. Regardless of what anyone else says, this is still a respectable opponent. Can't wait

I'm really lovin' the FW division right now.

Let's be real guys, It was just a matter of time before Bernabe got really hurt, the ref did his job in protecting h=the fighter to fight another day, i think Bernabe is a dangerous fighter for anyone, but you must get him out quick, or his confidents grows, with each round, Lopez made a rookie mistake, but I think he learned his lesson, with Marquez he will find himself keeping a good distance and maintaing Marquez at the end of his long arms. Gamboa may be a great fighter but Lopez size advantage and reach will cause problems if he can keep the young powerful Gambo at a long distances, fighting in a mid distance and exchanging can be very bad for Lopez, Gamboa Packs a punch in Both hands. As far as Marquez, is the other way around ...get at him quick to the body and in then later rounds on go for the kill, the age factor favors Lopez, I don't think anyone can beat Lopez at this weight but he must remain patient, there is a lot of talent in this division, and as far as Caballero that would be the easiest of the 3. Lopez plans to move to 130 and his body will adjust pretty good. Great fight, Concepcion needs to back to the drawing board and get a better jab, all his punches had a lot a power but no initial set up withe jab, if he can develop a jab, this kid could easily be a great contender a great soon to be champion, I wish him best of luck and also a huge thanks for getting up a showing he was willing to tray with a fighter that is regarded as the strongest puncher in the division this including Gamboa, just look on how far back Concepcion was moved by the straight rights and the damage by Lopez when he put massive combinations. stats don't lie and Lopez's record speaks for himself. needs to improve in recognizing when a fighter is hurt he is most dangerous, keep the fight at your natural distance, Viva Puerto Rico and all its great fighters and amazing boxing fans!
