Los Angeles based Golden Boy Promotions has been suspended by the State of New York’s Athletic Commission in relation to a discrepancy in the accounting for purses of boxers which appeared on a May 15, 2010 event in Madison Square Garden.
Golden Boy Promotions, spearheaded by East Los Angeles boxing hero Oscar De La Hoya, as of Friday, may not conduct business in New York until further notice.
Home Box Office (HBO) provided Golden Boy Promotions for $750,000 to present a fight card featuring Nate Campbell vs. Victor Ortiz. Records indicate that Ortiz was paid $100,000, Campbell $125,000, leaving an unaccounted $525,000.
Speculation points to Golden Boy adding the extra money to fight which took place on the same event between Amir Khan and Paulie Malinaggi.
There has been no official response from Golden Boy Promotions in relation to the situation, which will require other State commissions to contact New York’s body before regulating the promotions shows.
