You raise a lot of great question here, For me it the deduction or monies offered to Campbell and ortiz is relatively small and too low considering what HBO paid GBP, It might not be illegal but it does stink bad for a promotion company which claim they represent the best interest of fighters and how they want to change the way promoters are talked about.
[Breaking News]GBP in DEEP ****..

It'd be ironic and funny to see Ortiz go back to Top Rank after this debacle. I think GBP will pay the money that was scammed and plus then some to both boxers just to keep them jumping ship or suing.Comment

Is this a normal thing in boxing?

does that mean if this wasnt discovered whenever Ortiz and Campbell went to pay their tax bill, the IRS would be looking for tax on the whole 700k (between them) i.e. the fighters would've had to pay more tax money than they got for their purse? It's like this, HBO says if you fight so and so, We'll pay you 125k for the fight...the fighter says ok sounds good. Only HBO knows how much it costs to put on the fights and secure the venue and what not. They tell the IRS or whoever is going to audit the books so to speak, that they paid the fighters a total of 700K when in reality they only paid the fighters 250K but the fighters only know they got paid what they were promised so they are kosher- and they aren't going to be none the wiser.
Once the auditing body finds out that the fighters got paid like a third of what GBP says they paid them, they screw over GBp because they lied and pocketed the extra 500K for some reason.
edit- nevermind, was explained on the next page.Last edited by gingeralbino; 07-11-2010, 03:43 AM.Comment
