  • Comments Thread For: Saul Alvarez-Luciano Cuello Early Results From Mexico

At the Arena VFG in Tlajomulco de Zuniga, Jalisco, Mexico, Rigoberto "Espaņol" Alvarez-the oldest brother of Saul Canelo Alvarez made short work of overmatched Alfredo Treviņo. Southpaw Rigoberto (24-2, 18 KO's) decked Alfredo (4-0,1 KO) with a short right hand, and although he got up the referee, waved off the action at 2.15 of the first round.

I give Alvarez credit for taking fights against guys that aren't the easiest in the world to look good against. But I still have yet to se what makes him special, other than his being young and a red-headed Mexican.

Cuello is tough, but Alvarez didn't look particularly impressive tonight from what I saw. The sell is that he's young and will only get better. Maybe my own skepticism skews my views, but I've yet to pick up on that progression.

The same could be said for Chavez until recently.

Maybe they will start to push Canelo a little harder now.

I like that they're taking their time with him though.

I'm a big Canelo fan but dude is over hyped. Guys like Mares and Montiel should get more props than that guy to be honest.

Against "Tomato Cans" anybody can look good!! Let "All Hype" "Canelo" fight real contenders like Vyacheslav Senchenko, Mike Jones, Vanes Martirosyan, Fernando Guerrero just to mention a few...I think any of these guys will take all the hype away from Alvarez along with his undefeated record....

theres a diference with him and Pacquiao,
he actually knocked some one down with the winning gloves and didn't claim he would've won sooner if he was wearing Reys gloves.and dude ,thats business what do you think top rank did for Pacqiao.

Don't know about Jones but Canelo would **** Martirosyan .just like that old dude did.plus he's with golden boy ,sooner or later he'll be challenged. top rank would protect him from thoes guys.
