Do different gyms/coaches teach different styles of boxing???

As I switched gyms months ago, I have noticed that different boxing gyms teach different footwork and different way to side step.

So far the new gym teaches different ways to go to the right and left and they teach the hook differently then the previous gym I was at

Has anyone encounterd this before??? and if so should I disregard everything that was learned previously and just do what the new gym is teaching???

Yes, it's quite annoying isn't it?

Well the first gym taught the ali side step going to the right, the new gym teaches you to drag your back leg to your right and lift.

Heres a video of the ali side step and other footwork patterns

There's really no wrong way. I was taught the drag your back foot method.

Thats what my training partner says, he himself comes from a different boxing style in the second gym that we are at and he holds his hands up a bit differently as well.

It seems like each gym has there own style but I feel like as long as your not off-balance and not over extended then it should be fine
