Comments Thread For: Mike Jones Stops Irving Garcia After Referee Mishap

At the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, welterweight Mike Jones (22-0, 18KOs) stopped Irving Garcia (17-5, 8KOs) in the fifth round after a referee mishap. Jones was in full control of the fight but Garcia was game and trying to fight back as hard as possible. During the fourth, Jones had Garcia in trouble. He couldn't finish him off before the end of the round. In the fifth, Jones had Garcia in serious trouble but caught Garcia with a bad low blow that sent Garcia down to his knee. The referee did not see the low blow and counted Garcia out. The Garcia tried to protest the ending.

Yeah, but like they said.. He probably cheated himself out of a legitimate TKO/KO victory. So that kind of sucks. But yeah, he was clearly on his way to a victory.

yea that would definitely suck if they reverse the decision to a No Contest. I guess we'll see what happens.

it would suck if they let people get away with low blow knockouts whether or not they were winning the fight.

It sucks the fight ended that way it looked like Jones was over whelming Garcia.

And i dont mean to speculate (even though I'am) it seemed like Garcia went down and didnt get up from the low blow as a chance to get out of the fight. He didnt even try to stand up.
