sergio martinez is not a straight ahead guy he usually goes backwards he is smart.marquez was to a very smart boxer if you dont come forward its easier for floyd.i think willaims.he has trouble with BIG punchers only.willaims will give him a harder fight but mayweather WINS a close split decesion.cotto and martinez will end up like marquez and mosley and pacquiao on november
His hardest fights were with Castillo because Castillo didnt just come forward in straight lines, He was versatile because he could box aswell as punch and pick the perfect time to attack and steal the close, tactical rounds. I think Martinez is a simular kind of opponent, He's not as smart as Castillo but his footwork is very good and he is a bigger man so if he landed something clean it could be a big deal. I still think Floyd would beat him, But it would be interesting.Comment

But Paul is one dimensional. He is a beast but he gets hit way too much, and if you look at his resume he hasnt fought a real puncher yet. Perhaps you could say Martinez hits just as hard as Mayweather but Floyd is so accurate and much harder to hit than Sergio. Williams would go out there and throw 100 punches per round and end up getting hit clean over and over.
I would see Paul having fits if that fight ever happened. I just think Martinez would have a better chance because he can switch up his offence, Wheras Williams only fights in one high paced style.
Difference with Paul is that he doesn't stop coming foward; doesn't stop throwing punches. He sets a much higher pace then Martinez. Mayweather may be an underrated puncher, but he doesn't have the kind of power that would stop Paul from throwing. He'll have to to move, unless he wants to be the aggressor. But I don't know how good that'll do him.Comment

Williams hands down.
While he needs to brush up on a few things (see Cintron fight), he would be a tough challenge.
Imagine a southpaw that can throw consistently over 100 punches per round. Floyd would have big big problems with that as his defense would be compromised once Williams gets into his rhythm. While the roll the shoulders will not work well against a southpaw, if he does use it Williams can still avoid the shoulders since he his tall. Meaning that Floyd's shoulder will NOT obstruct Williams punches from coming threw.
Floyd likes to fight a slower paced fight but Williams would not slow down for 12 rounds as he has good stamina.Comment

I give Paul Williams a better chance. Martinez does have a bit of a stamina issue, and he doesn't set a very high pace. The pace Martinez sets favors Mayweather. Lets also remember that Pavlik was able to time Martinez in the middle rounds.

He wins fights by "getting into his rythm" but how do you get into a rythm against Mayweather? His accuracy in avoiding and landing punches is second to none. It's just very hard for me to imagine him giving Floyd trouble with his style. He throws lots of wide punches and I think he would be get countered whenever he tries to come in.
I think Martinez is different because he is strong but he makes you come to him and be the aggressor, I still think Floyd would beat him but it would be interesting. I'm not saying I wouldnt like to see a Mayweather fight with Williams but I think Martinez has more of a chance of beating him.Comment

The only name that counts here is Martinez.
People have the wrong idea about him too. He only moves backwards with fighters larger than himself. He dodges their longer jab by moving backwards and countering over it.
Against a smaller opponent, he's pretty aggressive. Mayweather will make him think a bit, but the vibe would be totally different than his fights against PWill (the giant) and Pavlik (15lbs heavier).
At 160lbs I favour Martinez, at 154lbs I'd call it a toss-up.Comment
