It's not exactly a secret. Ross Greenburg, president of HBO Sports, is pushing to make a rematch between Paul "The Punisher" Williams and WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez. The target date is October 2.

Last December, Martinez and Williams traded knockdowns in the first round, and then fought at a furious pace until the final bell. After the smoke cleared, Williams won the "fight-of-the-year" candidate with a close twelve round majority decision. One judge scored it a 114-114 draw, while the other two saw it for Williams with scores of 115-113 and an unrealistic 119-110.

Martinez has since bounced back from the Williams loss in a major way. He captured the WBC and WBO middleweight titles with an impressive unanimous decision win over Kelly Pavlik in April.

Sampson Lewkowicz, the agent for Martinez, told BoxingScene.com that his fighter is ready to accept the Williams rematch for October. But, Lewkowicz says the rematch is in limbo because Williams' promoter, Dan Goossen, is positioning his fighter for a run in the welterweight division, where Williams was a champion two years ago. Since his last appearance as a welterweight, Williams fought three times at middleweight and twice at junior middleweight.

Lewkowicz, currently in Guadalajara to watch Saturday's fight between Saul Alvarez and Luciano Cuello, believes the rematch is a logical fight for both boxers. A welterweight run for Williams is a waste of time, says Lewkowicz.

When hes active Martinez has no answers. Even when Pav started letting his hands go he had success. Thats what cost him the first fight. His stamina. Paul kept pounding on his ass.
Why are you quoting Martinez? Do you think an ex footballer won't be in shape this time around? And it's even better that Martinez is being honest about how he felt...that shows he's going to be much more prepared for your boy. He'll be ready for Paul's stamina this time. Martinez will adjust, Paul will be Paul.

He was in shape last time. Still doesnt mean his stamina is on Pauls level.

Adjust to what? Even before he had problems with the pace Paul couldnt miss him. Hell they didnt miss each other..at all.

THATS why it was a fight of the year. Martinez has a lot of bad habits too. I know his bandwagoners that only knew him since the Paul fight dont know that. But Paul capitalized on all of his mistakes.

          They'll do it again.

          Williams UD or late stoppage.

Oh I quoted Martinez because NSB likes to rewrite history and act like Paul wasnt landing bombs on Martinez as well.

They beat the hell out of each other....and I thought Martinez was so tired, his legs were ready to go. Paul makes more mistakes next fight, Martinez makes less, SD Martinez. A third fight....

He isn't going for the smallest guy
he is going for the boxer who as of now is on the top of boxing
if the guy was as tall as Paul Williams, paul would still go to get a fight

IMO Sergio won the first fight and should sin the second. Williams seems stuck in his development while Martinez gets better every fight. I also believe that some people overrate Williams power, when to me it is clear that Martinez is the harder puncher. Martinez by UD or possibly late stoppage, williams gets hit to much and to often.
