Bob Arum is a disgrace to boxing. Here's why.....
He is optimistic that the Nevada State Athletic Commission with "do the right thing" and allow Antonio Margarito to be re-licensed. Here is the quote from Mr Arum.
"I'm optimistic the commission will do the right thing, but I haven't talked to anyone on the commission," Arum said. "I really believe he should get his licence in Nevada. He and his attorney will present the reasons and the Nevada commission will decide. We went to Nevada because that's where we are planning for him to fight. If it's not against [Manny] Pacquiao in November, it would be against [Miguel] Cotto in December."
I know im not the only person who is disgusted by this but I have heard many people talk about Margarito and possibly big fights with Mayweather, Pacquiao and Cotto. Hasnt it even registered with some of you that this is a guy who put bricks in his gloves for fights? I dont care whether he did it or his trainer, The fact that it was there says it all and being such a big sport I find it terrible that people are allowed to get away with things like this. Taking steroids or PED's is one thing but loading your gloves takes it to a whole new level of brutality. The man derailed several careers and should have been made to start from the very bottom. But as it happens we get promoters like Arum who couldnt give a **** about his fighters health and safety, He just wants to make money. It doesnt matter whether people are cheating or not.
Im glad that HBO agrees with me and will never put Margarito on their network again, So if Arum does want to make big fights with Pacquiao or Cotto then he will have to do it on one of his Pinoy Power/Latin Fury PPV's.
And what will it say about Pacquiao? The #1 Pound for pound boxer in the world if he refuses random drug testing and then goes to fight a cheater like Margarito. It will make him look very bad, and im not saying Manny is on performence enhancing drugs and I never have but until he takes the tests we just dont know. I find it hard to believe that somebody who has so much pride and is loved in his country would pass up the chance to prove he is clean. But if he IS on PED's then maybe it's not worth the risk of taking the tests and facing the possibility of being humiliated and being exposed as a fraud. We will never know until he takes random testing. But if he fights Margarito and then retires, Then his "legacy" and "image" that he takes so much pride in will look very bad and suspiscious.
People always talk bad about Floyd Mayweather picking his fights but id much rather pick my fights and have random drug testing than have a promoter like Arum put me in there with people who load their gloves among other things. Some people call that "cherry picking" but I call it being smart.
