Comments Thread For: Insider Notebook: Ghost is Back; Jacobs; Drug Testing

By Robert Morales - Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero had just stopped Edel Ruiz in the first round on the January 2009 undercard of the "Sugar" Shane Mosley-Antonio Margarito welterweight title fight at Staples Center in Los Angeles.

Guerrero was all smiles as he sat in a chair on press row talking to reporters. He was happy to have beaten Ruiz. But the bulk of his happiness came from having received a phone call from his wife, Casey, during the weigh-in for that fight. She told her husband she had just been declared in remission from her leukemia, which she was diagnosed with in November 2007.

Unfortunately, the leukemia returned that August, not long after Guerrero beat Malcolm Klassen to win the super featherweight world championship; Guerrero had already won a featherweight belt.

"It's just like getting your head knocked off, knowing what you have already been through with her and seeing what she had been through," said Guerrero, who will take on Joel Casamayor on July 31 at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas on the undercard of Juan Manuel Marquez-Juan Diaz II. "It's like, 'Here we go again.' "It was tough to find out she relapsed again and that you have to go through the whole process. You can only go through so many treatments when your body stops taking the chemotherapy. Chemo only works so long. As you relapse, the sickness gets immune to it and it keeps coming back." The HGH thing is right, there is NO reliable or even good method for detecting HGH that is currently available.

All those people saying fighters need blood testing to detect HGH are wrong. If ONLY 1 of thousands is found positive, then that is a HUGE failure and waste.

Another thing is that if the fight is cancelled and fighters start suing or get sued over testing positive for HGH with primative methods, then there is no way they will lose the suit since no medical evidence shows that a drug test can acurrectly detect HGH

Maybe out of all the people they tested only one was using HGH.

Right. It is not only HGH they test for anyways.

On another note, it seems like it's best to opt out of chemo when in doubt.

They tested Pacquiao back in December and was random, and it came negative.... Floyd Suckers where are you now... Pacquiao is totally clean.... crabs!

There is no reliable method to test HGH, then why insist on taking this test. Waste of time, energy, money. Maybe they just want to stall the fight... Quackkk............

I like Jacobs' little jab at Winky Wright. If Jacobs wins make that fight happen at 160!

                No **** Sherlock

So the word is out, blood testing is a bunch of bullcrap. The NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and UFC all use urine tests. The whole blood testing issue has been nothing more then a fairy tale excuse to dodge a legitimate threat. It's so obvious it's laughable. Even if you're a die hard floyd fan and u believe in monsters under your bed, pac has already agreed to the blood test so take it down a notch. All your anger should be pointed at ur idol, does the term "grow a pair" mean anything to u?

No. It was not random. It was announced. Pacquiao had two days to submit a urine sample.

Get your facts straight before you gloat. Now go clean the bedpans.

Why is everyone fixated on HGH when there are over 100 drugs on the banned list?
