I'm talking about right now. Not that I believe Cotto is shot or anything like that.
I believe Cotto is shot. Or, at least, well past prime. After Margarito he dropped so far down in skill that its almost impossible to quantify; Pacquiao then dealt his ability level another blow, although how much I don't know. The arrival of Emmanuel Steward has brought back a little of Cotto, but he is still some way away from even being at the standard he was when he fought Pacquiao, forget his supreme prime.
Currently Cotto would barely land at all. He might touch with 20% of his shots and connect cleanly with around 5%.
Cotto isn't the fastest guy out there but the thing that always impressed me with cotto is his timing, accuracy/precision. He places his punches very well. Not to mention he feasts on pure boxers. Now Floyd isn't ur ordinary pure boxer, he's obviously special but still cotto would give floyd problems. Based on the style match up.
Floyd is a defensive, counter punching, pure boxer. Something Cotto has never faced. Quintana, Malignaggi, Foreman are all pure boxers who Cotto had little to no problem with. But they were missing 1. Defense, and 2. counterpunching. They were basically just running around throwing jabs. Floyd does not run around throwing jabs, he runs around to set something up, not just to throw little jabs and rights.
For the record this is mosley's landed/thrown per round:
11/34
18/47
7/24
3/26
7/34
11/38
6/47
5/27
3/45
6/40
8/41
7/49
Mosley landed in the single digits 9 out of 12 rounds, and it was the first two rounds landing in double digits. Again, I just don't see cotto landing more than that and I especially don't see cotto throwing 60-70 punches per round!!! lol
I'm talking about right now. Not that I believe Cotto is shot or anything like that.
anyways, El C@cique@PR, you're crazy if you think Cotto will throw 65-71 punches per round against floyd. You cannot do that against Floyd with cotto's style & skill set.
100K that if Cotto moves out of Puerto Rico and Floyd mans up and fight him Cotto averages 65 punches per round.
He would land about the average percentage, he would do better early on in the fight and it would eventually all fall apart for him in last 2/3 of the fight.
He would hit Floyd with some pretty shots early but for all his pretty looking punches Cotto has never been much of a one punch guy.
I tend to think this fight would play out roughly the same way no matter when they fought, but certainly he has less of a chance now.
