Didn't you spar with Sugar Ray Leonard when you were an amateur?

When I was 17. It was fun.

    Did he whip you?

No, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. He'll tell you about it. I did very good with him. I pretty much dominated most of it. He hit me with one hook that was a good shot just to show me he still had it. My hand speed was so much more phenomenal, and he didn't expect me to be that fast. So I caught him. I started messing with him because he was retired (Leonard was training for a bout with Donny Lalonde in 1988; Jones competed in the Seoul Olympics that year). I was getting at him good. He hit me with a hook to let me know, 'I can get at you too.' So it was cool. I thought I got the best of it, but because he landed a good hook I'll call it even.
    just thought i'd share

Me too, especially when it's current ATG against a future ATG. It amazes me sometimes how small the boxing world really is.

Leonard probably held back, but he was out of it then. Roy was ridiculously quick, so that alone could make a pretty big difference, especially in sparring.

lol i think if anything it was roy that probably held back no sense in smashing up leonard before his fight

i've seen that fight against Lalonde to think of that Leonard in there with Roy i seriously doubt he was taking it easy on him even if he was 17 leonard didn;t have a whole lot left at that stage

I was thinking about what Roy said when Leonard gave him a little left hook to let him know he still had it. Maybe that's all Leonard wanted to give him? IDK, Leonard should have retired completely after fighting Hagler anyways.
