Ray Mercer to fight Shannon Briggs

    Mercer-Briggs in the works

According to a report in the PressofAtlanticCity.com website, Heavyweight Ray Mercer's advisor, Matt Howard, has informed them that negotiations are underway for a Ray Mercer vs. Shannon Briggs bout on Aug. 27. According to the report, Jameel McCline will more than likely take on Lance Whitaker on the undercard. The undercard could possibly feature David Tua, who recently returned to the ring after a two year absence.

While not a meaningful card, these could be some good fights as far as Heavies go.

Kind of a C and B class card of HWs...yes Tua is B class (at the moment) until he actually fights and wins again...but non the less, we know who they are...though Briggs will probably beat Mercer and McCline I think can be active enough again to beat Lance...but McCline has been heavy these past couple of years and may have trouble doing what he did to Lance in the first fight

....I would say they are interesting fights to watch at least. Nothing much else happening in the heavies.

This is what guys who want to earn title shots again should do - fight each other, with the winners moving a step closer to getting another shot eventually, providing they continue to win.

Oliver McCall, Rid**** Bowe, Andrew Golota, Evander Holyfield should be lumped in with Whitaker, McCline, Tua, Briggs, Mercer as belonging to this bunch.

Whoever loses on this card probably shouldn't fight a name fighter for the remainder of their careers...

itll give both fighters a chance to get back in the game. i like mercer because of how hard his chin is but he a MILE past his prime, briggs still has a chance, hes only in his early 30's.
