WBA Middleweight champion Felix Sturm to return 4/9/2010 in Germany

According to Boxrec.com current World Boxing Assosciation (WBA) Super World Middleweight champion Felix Sturm 33-2-1 (14 KO's) will return on 4th September at the 20,000 seat Lanxess Arena in Cologne, Germany against an unconfirmed opponent. Sturm has been out of the ring since his close but unanimous decision victory over Khoren Gevor in July of last year. This is largely due to his promotional dispute with Universum which has had to be resolved in court but it now seems as though Sturm (31) is ready and able to get back in the ring and defend his title after almost a year on the sidelines.

Rumored opponents include IBF champion Sebastian Sylvester, WBC champion Sergio Martinez, Ricardo Mayorga and Roman Karmazin but as of right now nothing has been confirmed.

FIGHT SERGIO MARTINEZ!!! Stop defending against tomato cans in your backyard and holding that belt hostage. Now's your chance Sturm.

He has been held back by his promoters but the guys who he has been fighting have NOT been tomato cans. Sebastian Sylvester, Khoren Ghevor and Javier Castillejo are all very capable boxers. I would rate them as high or better than anyone who Pavlik or Martinez has beaten.

Sturm has been fighting in Germany because he is very popular over there, In the U.S they dont know much about him but he is huge in Europe. And that's why he fights there, There is much more money for him. But I think he will fight Martinez soon, He wants to win another world title at Middleweight before he moves up.

I consider Khoren Ghevor a tomato can, but Sylvester and Castillejo are alright I suppose. But I'm glad to hear that he's out of that contract. I think it was a bad choice to get into it in the first place because the division was very deep at the time and I was really upset that we couldn't see him and Pavlik go at it, but Sturm-Martinez would probably be more interesting anyways.

Money perspective that makes sense. Sturm is too good to be beating up on tomato cans. But to get himself financially set I guess it is just smart business to fight in his homeland.

Gevor isnt a pushover, He gave Arthur Abraham all he could handle before the knockout. He's a good fighter but I can definetly see the frustration. Sturm is one of my favorite fighters and I rate him very highly, He was supposed to fight Abraham but it fell apart over money. So he doesnt have a real big name win but i'm sure we will see him in big fights in the future. He is 31, in his absolute prime and has been champion for 3 years so it's time to unify. I definetly see a Sturm-Martinez unification in the future. He was reluctant to fight Pavlik because Pavlik was the big American HBO fighter, He might have got robbed again and wouldnt have got much money for it so I can see why that didnt happen.

In the U.S it might seem like nobody is interested in the Middleweight division but guys like Abraham, Sturm and now Sylvester are very popular in Europe and the fights make alot of money. Especially when they fight in this big football/soccer stadiums that hold thousands of people. The Klitschko's are also doing this because it makes loads of money, I imagine that Sturm gets about 1-2 million per fight in Germany. He can't command that type of money in the States.
