Comments Thread For: Halfway Home: BoxingScene.com’s Mid-Year Review

By Cliff Rold - With the long hot summer fully underway, boxing 12-month season reaches its halfway mark without knowing where it will end up. The biggest fight which can be made is the same one which fell apart to start the year, Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao, and close to a quarter of a billion dollars in revenue could ride on the answer to will they or won’t they.

In the meantime, the sports two biggest stars stayed active with dominant wins while the rest of the game rolled on. Boxing has seen memorable action all over the scale with careers redefined at Flyweight and Bantamweight, coronations in the storied Welterweight and Middleweight classes, and the ongoing development of the “Super Six” Super Middleweight tournament. Great, great article by the best writer on this site and in the sport period.

    My picks:

Fighter of the half year: Floyd Mayweather

Fight of the half year: Escalante vs. Roman.

      that is really slim pickings.

sergio martinez FOTY? beating who marvin hagler? ohh wait kelly pavlik.

      GTFO.

floyd beating a 39 year old 1 year & 5 month inactive shane mosley who gassed after the 3rd round is more deserving than martinez.

Froch/kess #1 fight??? That prob should have been 3rd at best,
1-esclante/Miguel: especially if u want to speak of a backdrop story line to go along with it, from their past.
        2-mares/perez
        3-then I guess Froch/kess

He blew his load trying to KO Floyd. Floyd came out in the 3rd and rushed him. Shane was stuck on defense the rest of the fight and was thinking to much. Dominant win for Floyd.

you dont blow your whole load after 2 rounds if you are in prime condition.

I guess he shouldve spent more time running than punching floaties and dodging towels. Not Floyds fault.

Its not like Mosley has ever had the best stamina in the world. He never fights hard for the whole fight, so its hard to tell. He's usually a second half fighter. Age has played a part for sure, but its not like he had Pacquiao, Bradley and Williams type stamina in his prime either.

This has been a terrible year for boxing so far. There hasn't been a fight of the year so far, nor has there been a clear fighter of the year.

Pathetic, I blame Bob/Golden Boy/Shaw and to a lesser extent Haye.
