Don King always offered good advice to those who might not be able to travel to attend one of his fight cards in person.
"If you can't be on the scene," King would shout in his carny barker voice, "then catch it on the screen!"
It looks as though neither option may work for Floyd Mayweather's uncle and head trainer Roger when it comes to the looming large Nov. 13 Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao super bout in Las Vegas.
Oh, it's not like Uncle Rajah, or the "Black Mamba" was he was known during his excellent pro ring career, won't be in Vegas at the time of the megabout.
But, unless his criminal defense lawyer can go into a four corner basketball stall game or they gamble to roll the dice at trial, Roger may be locked up in the Clark County Jail.
"Guests" at that facility are not permitted to peruse and or pay for any PPV TV programs.
Mayweather, or 0637005 under his jail ID number, is free as bird as you read this but there is a pretrial court date on July 29 and a trial date set for Aug. 2.
I suppose it's possible the trial gets delayed and, even if it doesn't, Mayweather's attorney could be able to delay imposition of a sentence.
But you have to wonder how such uncertainty will mentally affect both Roger and Nephew Floyd if that's the way things shake out.
Female boxer, aspiring model Melissa St. Vil is complainant against Roger "Black Mamba" Mayweather. Her boxing nickname is 'Guard Your Grill.'
This case does not have the wide media and public interest of an OJ Simpson trial but it certainly is significant in boxing circles especially with the big brawl pending.
Oh, that reminds me, old pal OJ, locked up in Lovelock, won't be catching Mayweather-Pacquiao on the screen, either.
Too bad because many years ago, I rapped out with "The Juice" at Caesars Palace about his love for boxing. The Portrero Hill, San Francisco, native was really into Jimmy Lester and other top boxing pros from the Bay Area as he grew up.
But I digress.
Certainly, no court will delay the matter just so that Roger can cash in on his share of a possible $40 million Mayweather purse.
Mayweather is facing three felony charges for coercion, battery and battery causing substanital physical harm as a result of a landlord-tenant dispute involving female boxer Melissa "Guard Your Grill" St. Vil and the former world champion.
Police reports indicate that Mayweather was like a snake in that they witnessed him choking the then 25 year old, 132 pound boxer. Mayweather has alleged that he was only acting in self defense after Ms. St. Vil bashed his head with a lamp.
Mayweather, out on $13,000 bail, is likely to do prison time if he pleads guilty or is convicted at trial.
His rap sheet is not as lengthy as the Collected Works of William Shakspeare, no doubt, but Roger is what defense lawyers often call "a frequent fllyer" in the local criminal justice courts.
Mayweather has a prior record for domestic violence and this is what L'il Floyd said when he lost the boxing services of Uncle Rajah in 2006:
"The main thing is I miss his presence. I like having him around, I like being around him. I'm comfortable with him. Things happen in life. There are certain obstacles. That's an obstacle that God put in front of him that he has to cross, and without him being in my corner, that's an obstacle that I have to cross."
On Dec. 6, 2005, Roger pled guilty to a misdemeanor battery charge and got an all expense paid stay at the local hoosegow.
Who might step into Roger's shoes as the lead trainer for Money May and as the trusted voice in his corner in the Pacman fight?
