He beat Lacy and Kessler, two atm dangerous undefeated fighters easily. The 2001 Calzaghe won't stand much of a chance against Toney.
Good point on the first satement of Joe not being ready yet.

But the rest.... I dont think that I would ever catagorize Joe as a beast. Lacy was highly pumped by the boxing press and not nearly what they were making him out to be. Kessler I dont know much about.

But still, good comment on the timing of this bout..........Rockin'

Yeah he is right about the timing. People are focusing on James' worst performance yet they are ignoring that at that time Calzaghe wasn't that far off from being the guy who won a narrow Split over Robin Reid.

The question of whether Toney could beat Calzaghe really comes down to whether or not Toney was committed to losing the weight properly. For some fights he did, others he didn't. Not sure there was a whole lot of rhyme or reason.

I don't think a fit and ready Toney has much problem with the Calzaghe of 2001. Joe would have been in for a shock at the level of fighting he got from James compared to the guys he had been defending his belt against.

So because Calzaghe had a split decision against a highly underrated Robin Reid? Did you watch the fight? That fight wasnt close at all. 2 refs had it 116-111. Please tell me the rounds you have Reid winning. And explain how. Calzaghe outlanded him in 9 freaking rounds. And his percentages were higher in 10 rounds. It was his 3rd defense. By the way James Toney had split decision wins over the likes of Merqui Sosa, Reggie Johnson, Dave Tiberi, a draw and an MD against 36 year old Mike McCallum, and a draw against Sanderline Williams (whoever the hell that was) oh and his next fight he got beat by Montell Griffen.

Sorry Calzaghe sparks any version of Toney. Shoulder role dont work against the Southpaw Psycho.

Only someone born and raised in the UK would refer to Reid as "highly underrated".

I guess he him being underrated explains him getting his ass kicked by Silvio Branco twice as convincgly as Calzaghe did it in his very next fight.

Who is the best fighter that Robin Reid ever beat? Answer me that.

A 36 year old Mike McCallum would have kicked the ever living **** out of any version of Robin Reid.
