Winky can control an entire fight and keep his opponent on the outside with his jab easy. Sturm couldn't do that with Delahoya and Taylor's jab can be countered easy because he keeps it so low. Hopkins will expose that to the world on the 16th.
Wright didn't completely keep Shane on the outside with his jab in their fights either. Sturm basically used a jab to lose to (well everyone knows he won) DLH and very little else. He'd mix in the occasional cross and left hook but they were few and far between.
Wright was doubling up on hooks, throwing a left cross behind the right jab, and was throwing the straight lefts pretty regularly in those Mosely fights. The Trinidad fight was different and he DID use the basic 1,2 with emphasis on the jab to control that fight i'll admit that.
I just think Sturms is the best because he sells out on it, much like Quartey used to in his prime. He rarely ever paws with it and rarely ever flicks out a meaningless jab...I've seen Wright and Taylor do it more than a few times.

Sturm does have a good jab but Delahoya was still able to get on the inside and **** Sturms body and land shots upstairs. Sturm's jab doesn't compare to Winky's more educated jab.
sturm didnt work his jab all night, he let de la hoya in, and those body shots didnt do a thing to sturm, when DLH was inside sturm would hook and uppercut him and land upstairs

sturms..it has pretty ok power to it behind it..and it comes so fast that by the time you feel the first one,he's hit you with about 5 more. Winky is good also,it jsut seems like Felix xan hit you with it so good and fast to set up other punches.

Originally posted by mic573He toyed with Mosley and opened up more in both fights because he didn't see any danger from Mosley. He may not always use it the way he did against Tito but his jab is still the most educated out of the four mentioned. He always fights behind his jab and defense.
Everything you just said is true of Sturm as well. You think that Sturm actually thought DLH was a threat or could hurt him? Sturms game is pretty much identical to Wrights, it's just not as well rounded. He uses the jab to control his man and defends with his forearms up, gloves high, and elbows tucked.
I think Winky has more going for him right now as far as offense and experience things, but when you strip everything down and just evaluate the jab, Sturms is superior.
