What can Vernon Forrest do now?

With the return of Vernon "The Viper" Forrest on July 16th, I just wanted to get everyones opinion on what he can do after his layoff? He seems to have great boxing skills and packs a solid punch but in the two fights with Mayorga he seemed to have some trouble with a puncher. I know that Mayorga is arguabley the toughest fighter around and was pretty good at Welterweight but Corey Spinks who many considered less of a Welter then Forrest had a much easier time than Vernon did. Anyway, what does everyone feel he can do back in boxing at either 154 or back at 147?

Vernon has no legs, so he'll never be able to hang in there vs. a KO puncher like Mayo, Margarito, Judah, or even Ouma...even when Mayorga hit Vernon on the gloves, he would get knocked back 3-4 steps, which is really what got Ricardo his W in their 2nd fight (I was there )

Thats cool that you were there, I just finished watching it about 10 minutes ago and I scored it a draw. I dont think theyre was anyway Vernon won the fight and you could have gave Mayorga the fight on agression but being fair I scored it a draw.

it was a close fight no doubt, out of the 4000 people in attendance, about 3900 were rooting for Ricardo, the crowd went nuts evey time he came close to landing a right hand, & Vernon kept falling backwards even when he blocked the shots....meanwhile, when Vernon landed clean rights, Ricardo laughed them off and kept firing back, which won him a few of the close rounds

styles makes fights and apparently mayo was the wrong guy for vernon, but i think he'd do well against zab, oscar, floyd, etc....

good call, styles do make fights, which is why:

Zab would KO Vernon with 1 punch

Floyd would box circles around Vernon

& Oscar would never even contemplate a matchup with Forrest because he has such a good jab

what can vernon do? he's doing it. an easy rios fight is what he needs. he not only has to hurdle over the ringrust but also has to see how his injury healed.

i would think he's going to be brought back slowly for the near future.

Vernon is a decent fighter and I'm glad he is returning to the ring. After knocking some of the rust off he can be at least a contender for one of the titles. He handles speed pretty well like when he fought Suger Shane and it might get interesting if he fights Judah. I think Judah has a great punch but he can also be hurt.

Vernon is set for his comeback, and this time around.....I dont think he will leave as many fights up to the judges. The guy is not a weakling, like many people believe. 26 K.O.'s in 35 fights and some of them were just nasty. He doesnt have to run away from sluggers like he did. He made the critical error of moving straight back against Mayorga, and showed he was a pugilist in the second fight.

I really feel sorry for his comeback opponent. This guy hits alot harder than most people give him credit for, and sets up power shots with his jab.
