I understand what people are trying to say, but some act as if just because we have higher class training facilities, more supplements, and ways to train other than raw, sweaty, Rocky (movie) type stuff...that fighters today are better...the fighters of yesteryear simply just trained...naturally...their strength and conditioning came from heart and dedication...not from supplements...fighters today are more concerned with the way they look during weigh ins and resort to stuff like supplements...some may not focus on what needs to be trained...there are some "throwback" training fighters like a Hopkins and seemingly Mayweather...
but in my opinion, the training practices and technology of today does NOT make fighters better...if anything it just takes their focus away from down to earth, gritty, raw training...sure James Toney could probably jog a couple of miles, take a supplement, and be ready to fight lazily...but can he run for miles, swim for miles, can you imagine Toney skipping up hundreds of steps, or running backwards up a mountain (Marciano)...
technology to me has nothing to do with it...how comes the old greats didn't need all of that extra crap?
