Comments Thread For: Shumenov vs Uzelkov To Be Carried By ESPN2 on 7/23

Los Angeles, CA - When capturing the WBA Light Heavyweight Championship in just his 10th professional bout back in January, Beibut Shumenov (9-1, 6 KOs) entered the boxing record books for winning a major world title in the light heavyweight division with the fewest number of fights in his professional career, beating Jeff Harding’s record established in 1988 after winning the championship in his 15th professional bout. Let's hope Shumenov doesnt get another gift decision. The winner of this fight better fight Gabriel Campillo because Campillo was ROBBED in the 2nd fight against Shumenov. I only gave Shumenov 2 out of the 12 rounds, The guy got schooled and badly.

This will be a good one!

Hopefully Uzelkov will win by KO so it won't go to the judges. Let's hope the referee isn't in Shumenov's promoter's pocket.

        Campillo will fight the winner.

By the way, Uzelkov has already KOed Campillo.

I know Uzlekov already beat him, but he's a much better fighter now. I was just wondering with Shumenov's promoter saying he wants Dawson etc whether they would duck Campillo but I imagine the WBA wont allow that to happen. Considering the ridiculous decision in the 2nd fight. Patricia Morse Jarman who scored it 117-111 for Shumenov. This person should never be allowed to judge again because that was just crazy. Shumenov won 3 or 4 rounds at the absolute maximum, To give him 9 out of 12 was something that cannot be explained...

One of the best judges in the business, Roth scored it for Shumenov. The NVSAC backed the decision as did the WBA. Campillo does not get a shot at the winner. The WBA just ranked Campillo in the #1 position. Uzelkov is Shumenov's mandatory, which means Shumenov doesn't have to fight Campillo or whoever the WBA deems the next mandatory for at least 9 months after the date of the 7/23. I hope Shumenov wins as the young man in just 10 pro fights has proved he will fight anyone and everyone instead of padding his record like most fighters in the business. I mean look at his resume in just 10 fights, it is unheard of. I have much respect for what he has done!!

Lol @ one of the best judges in the business comment as some way to justify this robbery. Campillo schooled Shumenov, even someone who has never watched boxing and just turned on the TV to the fight would be able to clearly tell who the winner really was. Your supposed to beat the champ and take the belt Shumenov did nothing and was gifted the belt, then turned down the rubber match because he knows hes already lost twice to Gabriel. I really hope he gets his chance sometime soon because hes just a slick boxer, reminds me of a light heavyweight version combo of Sergio Martinez and Floyd Mayweather. If he ever gets his rematch, they should do it in Vegas with neutral refs and judges and Campillo will beat Shumenov for the 3rd time and re-claim the belt that was stolen from him.

Obviously you watched it on tv and are a Campillo fan because your comments comparing Campillo to Martinez and Mayweather are......
The fact is everyone in the boxing business knows that watching it on tv with the aid of the commentators is not the same as sitting ringside and watching/judging it live! Everyone can be an armchair quarterback after the fact but the fact is, Shumenov won the 2nd fight and the NV commission and the WBA ruled in favor of the decision. So it's time to move on.

How does watching a fight at home preclude someone from judging a fight well? While, of course, it is not the same as watching a fight ringside, that does not mean it's worse. To my mind, the vantage is usually better on TV. Commentators can influence how one might score a fight at home, but so can fan reaction, the promoter, and a bad view. That fact is, giving them the benefit of the doubt, judges make mistakes -- and they are sitting ringside! It is not unreasonable for a fan to dispute a decision and hope for a rematch. And, the fact that a fight has been ruled in one fighter's favor does is not sufficient cause for a fan to stop dis*****g that call. Why be a fan if you cannot dispute calls, argue about hypothetical fights, etc.?
