If Green beats Kessler (he wont), doesn't he get Kessler's title? If so, if he wins by UD and doesn't advance in the tournament, does he get to slide off with the WBC title?

Sure doesn't sound right, but on what grounds would he be stripped??

Yeah, he would get to slide off with the title. If you beat the title holder, you get the title. That's how boxing works.

if the WBC want the belt to stay in the tournament then they will probably demand he fight a mandatory defence within 48 hours then strip him, and then make the semi that doesnt have ward in it a title fight.

but they probably dont give a **** as long as they get a cut.

If Green beats Kessler and Ward beats Dirrell and Abraham beats Froch, there will be four fighters with 2 points, and Green would go through to the semis, due to having won his only head to head, whereas the other fighters would all have lost at least one of their head to heads.

Well, clearly, but I didn't know if they had signed any special stipulations upon entering the tournament.

I thought the whole point was to unify?

I wouldn't have predicted that the prelims end without a unified WBA/WBC titleholder, and I would have bet my life that someone with a title didn't clear to semifinals, but...

Green has the best chance of doing just that, because Kessler has looked atrocious after two fights.

I'm honestly split on who wins this fight between two mental weaklings.

The point is to figure out who the true 168lb champion is. Not necessarily to unify the titles.
