    Mayweather's Hands, Gloves, and Power

I was watching his fight with Gatti and I heard Lampley in one of the rounds talking about what kind of gloves Floyd was wearing and saying how Manny Steward said they were like pillows to protect his brittle hands. Then I rewatched the fight and I was looking at them and they were huge. They were much bigger then Gatti's. Gatti's were very small and you could probally feel his fist when he punches you.

The reason I bring this up is because how much do you think Floyd's gloves/hand problems hold him back? His hands are so bad that he has to wear these huge gloves that you know takes alot of power of his punches. If he was able to wear the smaller gloves then he probally wouldve KO Gatti in 3 or 4 rounds. This could be a huge problem in the future because now he will soon have to move up to 147 and he will need that extra power against those big guys. He could also need it against a guy like Cotto who is basically a welterweight his ownself and maybe against Hatton.

People say he doesnt have that much power or one punch power but they fail to look at that part. All of his punches were snapping Gatti's head back and that was with those huge gloves. With the punchers gloves he wouldve destroyed him but probally his hands also in the process. Its a very bad catch 22 for him and it might come back to haunt him as he starts to face these bigger guys who may start to walk through some of his punches

With smaller gloves he may have hurt Gatti slightly more, but the chance of his hands breaking would have skyrocketed.

He'll go the distance alot more at 147,i think thats certain.I dont know how big of a factor gloves are in general,I mean its factor with Maywether because he wasnt a 1 punch Ko guy to begin with,he didnt always wear those "pillows"(or did he?) Floyds entire philosophy of "Its ****** to get hit" will go a long way tho.

True. If it wasn't gatti another guy prolly would have been KO'd a lot sooner. But i disagree with what you said about it being a catch 22 when he goes up against bigger guys. He may not have a lot of power in his punches but he has the hand speed. Someone may be able to walk through a punch from pbf but when it's a 8 punch combo they will be stopped in their tracks IMO. I believe his hand speed will be the factor at 147 b/c not a lot of guys can take the punishment that gatti took. But then again a lot of guys also protect themselves more than gatti does so i guess we will have to wait and see.

Erik Morales wears the same gloves, you dont see him having problems KOing fighters. The gloves wont effect the force he's hitting with, it will just take a little sting out of the punch, not enough to really effect anything.

Thats not true. I have been hit by someone with big and small gloves and it is a totaly different feeling. Some small gloves you can actually feel the person's fist come through. Why do you think they were making such a big deal about the Morales and Pac fight? Also I dont think Morales wears them same gloves. He didnt wear them in the Pac fight

There a japanese glove called winning, there a decent glove and Morales always wears them, there exactly the same gloves that Mayweather wears.

We proudly introduce all winning product which is produced by Japanese craftsmanship. Winning USA is the only authorized dealer for Winning Boxing Product at out side Japan.

Reyes are supposed to be better for a puncher, the only main difference with Reyes is that the opponents gonna get cut up and bruised more. The force (which KO's fighters) doesnt really change enough from glove to glove to be a major issue. The only reason Manny P didnt KO Morales is the same reason nobodys KO'd Morrales, because he's as tough as they come.

Gatti was wearing Everlast and there not known as a punhcers glove, the gloves look different in size but all the paddings on the back of the gloves, which suits Mayweathers defence because he takes a lot of shots there and the extra padding will help. The knuckle part isnt that different.

I agree that the glove size makes a big difference but they were wearing the same weight gloves, it makes slight difference to power when wearing different brands but not the kind of difference you sometimes get in sparring(when someone's wearing 16's and someone's wearing 8's).

He was too small for 140 at first, i think he can step up to any weight within reason if he picks the right opponents. Maybe go as high as DLH did.
