It's frustrating sometimes dealing with folk who haven't actually watched these fighters. That mid-90's generation of British super mids, Bank, Dark Destroyer, Collins, Watson...they were the EQUALS of Roy, Toney, Gman etc. If They had a tourney back then, it would have been like the tourney now, styles dictating outcomes because they were and are all elite.
Joe was a special fighter, people should watch the Bank fight to see how great Joe was at his best.Comment

I dont like him but Calzaghe was a great boxer, I give him his props. I just wish he would have fought guys like RJJ and B-Hop in their prime. I think his resume could have been better than it is, Having said that it's still pretty good.Comment

Bernard signed to fight Joe in the states in 02, then broke the contract and fought Hakkar instead. Joe admitted in the 24/7 he wanted the crown ***els to face prime Roy and Roy said that Joe was way too good for him to fight because Joe brought no money...but those two both knew what the deal was with Joe C.Comment

Thats the problem though, Im as British as the next guy but it's true that to be the best you have to go to America and prove it. Collins tried and failed, Benn did it but not against the real ELITES. No disrespect to G-Man but back then RJJR and James Toney were the men to beat. Eubank should have gone abroad and fought these guys. I dont know why it didnt happen, Watson gave a very good account of himself but got knocked out by Mike McCallum. It's frustrating sometimes dealing with folk who haven't actually watched these fighters. This is why the Americans will always be able to say their guys were better. Because they beat other great fighters in their primes, Collins and Eubank only beat one or two great fighters in their prime. Im not trying to be annoying about the whole thing but its true...Comment

Yeah back then, I used to follow any boxing I could find. Banks, Benn, and Joe were all good fighters. It's frustrating sometimes dealing with folk who haven't actually watched these fighters. I still have a good laugh just thinking to myself about the way Chris would pose during fights...Dude was a beast though. The fight(s) that he had with Benn made me a fan of Benn's.Comment

I'm sorry, but Benn's win over Gman was maybe one of the greatest victories of the moderns era of boxing. Gerald was a monster, he had ever skill and tool you ask for in a fighter and Benn won on pure heart. Had Watson nt suffered that terrible injury I feel he would have been the best of the bunch. As for Collins, that McCallum loss was when he was young and losing to prime Mike McCallum is no shame as every top fighter avoided him like the hiv.Thats the problem though, Im as British as the next guy but it's true that to be the best you have to go to America and prove it. And, bottom line, Super Joe was ducked by the best Americans and beat them when he got his chance, as he would have in years prior. Oh, and I am a yank.Comment
