Floyd Mayweather at 147. What about his speed?

He made all his professional fights between 129,5lbs and 140lbs., his three fights at 140lbs. weight class he weighted 140, 139 and 139. Except from the first fight at 140, he went up in weight 10 lbs., going to 147lbs will be 7-8lbs. more. Will he preserve his speed at 147?
Zab Judah began at 140lbs. weight class, and he weighted 142-141 most of the time, then moved to 147, he is bigger, as some others on this weight class, actually some of the guys at 147lbs. enter the ring at more than that, I believe big guys like Vernon Forrest at 147lbs went to the ring at more than 147.

At the night of the fight, for the Gatti fight he weighed in at 147lbs. and he was as fast as ever..and he still looked good carrying the weight. So I think he'll do just fine at 147lbs. Not only that, there are guys shorter than him at that weight class. How he does past 147lbs. is something I don't know.

I agree, Mayweather may be able to compete at 154 but if I were him I would stay at 140-147.

Thanks for your reply. I understand that. But guys at 147 enter the ring at more than 147, for example at 154 so it's the same: there is still one weight class difference between him now and him at the future if he goes to 147 weight class, how he will do at one weight class more?

that would make sense because at 147 he may be able to retire undefeated.

ultimately i think mayweather will continue to move up until someone stops him. he is naturally gifted in a way that not many fighters have ever been and he will adapt to his weight as he moves up.

boxers all want their own legacy, mayweather wont retire wondering how far he could have gone.

Yeah, you raise a good point. If he can keep his speed up their size won't be a factor, but that's only if he can stay quick and fast. He's been fighting bigger guys for most of his career and spars only with bigger guys. Against most of the names people say will beat him, I think the only way for those guys to beat him is to knock him out, because at this stage of his career, if he can stay healthy and keep training...he is impossible to beat via decision.

True. But even at that jesus. If JLC couldnt knock him out, who in the hell will?

As long as he doesn't bulk up and trains the way he has always trained then I don't see him losing his speed.

If Mayweather wanted to he would be impossible to hit flush. When he is on point defensively like against Gatti he can't be touched.

He's going to be hit flush more and more as he moves up in weight. He's going to have to sacrifice some of his elusiveness to do damage. It comes with the territory.

Being on point defensively against Gatti and being on point defensively against elite fighters are two different things.

As far as him losing speed, I think he'd be quicker than everyone in the division by a considerable amount outside of Judah. If I had to guess Zabs speed = Floyds speed at 147.

Floyd shouldn't move up to 154 unless he goes after somebody who is harmless. Guys like Ouma and Simms would eat him up...especially Ouma.
