Dan Rafael's comments on Ward's performance

I dnt like the guy too much but he had some interesting remarks about ward's fight

    Danny Boy (NY)

Why in the world didn't the ref stop them from holding so much? This was more of a wrestling match than a boxing match.

    Dan Rafael (11:28 PM)

There was not much holding actually. There's a difference between holding and inside fighting. They were fighting on the inside, where Ward dominated.

exact same thing ive been sayin. there is a difference. what ward did is exactly how bully fighters have been fightin for centuries. look up jake lamotta and how he was able to beat srr.

I thought Ward fought really well. He didn't hold excessively.

Indeed. They where fighting inside. But it was most boring. Nothing like Chavez-Rosario for instance. Now that fight could have been held in a phonebooth and that was a great beatdown from the great JC Superstar.

the major difference being roasrio was a whole lot more game than green was. it would have def been more exciting if green had been wiling to throw and move like rosario did. but he chose to stay there and get pummeled.

If you want to watch skillful and exciting infighting watch Toney-Williams or Toney-Jirov

I was at the fight. Thought it was pretty boring. Then I watched it on my DVR when I got home and it was actually more exciting on TV lol.

I think the major difference also was Chavez' willingness to fight more than hold.

Ward did his part to put on a good fight, not his fault Green stopped throwing punches.

It was definitely infighting, not excessive holding, that being said I have no problem with people calling it boring because........it was.

True. It was effective for Ward and he was dominant but he smothered a lot of his shots and never landed with much power. And when he threw a bomb from the outside, he missed badly. It's funny that since he has added strength with his work with Victor Conte, he thinks he's Dwight Braxton.

It's a good wrinkle for him though because he almost always will be the better talent and now he mostly always be the stronger, more physical man too.

This new style almost gives him a sure win, without a lot of risk. But it is somewhat unpleasing because while there is fighting, many of the shots are thrown when they are half tied up, which isn't scintillating stuff.
