Comments Thread For: Nino Takes Rematch, Brings The WBC Title Back To Mexico

By Jake Donovan - Four months after having to be carried out on a stretcher after getting nailed with a left hook while on the canvas attempting to recover from a low blow, Rodel Mayol conceded his alphabet junior flyweight title on his feet after dropping a unanimous decision in his rematch with Omar Niño on Saturday evening.

The bout served as the main event of the last installment of “Top Rank Live” which aired from San Juan del Rio in Jalisco, Mexico.

Mayol did a much better job of protecting himself at all times, boxing smartly and never quite allowing Niño to plant his feet and load up in the early rounds. Both fighters had their moments, with Niño landing the harder shots but Mayol offering superior ring generalship.

the way mayol won the title by splitting sosa's skull open is far more controversial than the way he lost it by decision. one of the scorecards was definitely way off but nino was competitive and came on strong in the latter rounds even rocking mayol despite the adversity of fighting with a cut suffered from headbutts. a rematch is in order though. mayol's last 5 title fights have ended in controversy, hopefully the next one will be free of controversy for a change.

I think Mayol got robbed! & by the way the judges were scoring the fight it seemed like "LEECH" Sulaiman had already taken care of the judges so that no matter what, the Mexican(Niño) was getting the victory..What makes it more ironic is that the MEXICAN announcers in Fox Sports Español(Spanish)at 1 point had Mayol winning by a nice margin & criticized the official judges when they herd the official scores & herd it was all for Niño!

Whatever! Mayol is in-tasked of winning for KO because he was fighting in partisan venue, so if he ever wins by UD, MD or SD.. is immaterial because he will basically loss in the end and he knows this as most likely scenario. I hope, if they will meet again, should be in the neutral land like in the US with neutral judges and referees...
