    State of the Game 2004

This past weekend saw a few stars rise, a few stars fall. First we'll start with the falls. A year ago, heavyweight Dominick Guinn was thought of as the best american heavyweight since Rid**** Bowe. He had the talent, the punch, and the chin to do some serious damage. One thing he lacked was the motivation. He was out hustled and out punched by Serguei Lyakhovich, a relative unknown from Belarus. He proved to be more hype than hope. But in the main event of the card, undefeated 2000 silver medalist Rocky Juarez anhillated former featherweight titlist Guty Espadas in 2 rounds on a scintillating one punch left hook knock out that catipulted him into the featherweight picture big time. Fellow 2000 Olympian Jermain Taylor dominated an aging, badly faded William Joppy, further stating his case as Hopkins' number one threat for the title. What most impressed me was that he did something Eastman, Green, Hopkins, and Tito couldn't: He crushed his heart. Taylor is the real deal. Although I have been wrong... (David Reid, Michael Grant, David Tua). In his first defense of the IBF Super Middleweight title, Jeff Lacy came back from a slow start to dominate tough Omar Sheika en route to a unanimous decision win. I hope to see him in there with a Danny Green or Joe Calzaghe soon. But perhaps the guy I was most impressed by was undefeated heavyweight Samuel Peter. I was one of the people who said his lack of quality opposition was cause for concern, until he blew away Jeremy Williams with one left hook. I don't want to make comparisons, but he is Nigerian and has a solid chin. He is my favorite heavyweight prospect out there now. Signing off, The One called Sensation.

Peter blew away a guy with a weak chin...one who never was.

You're going to be very disappointed by Peter.

In the near future....you're gonna see him clowned. Both you & he will grow frustrated as he waits to land the single haymaker, but is too slow to do so.
