By Jake Donovan - Undefeated super middleweight Maxim Vlasov opened up the telecast a third round knockout over Jerson Ravelo in the ESPN2 Friday Night Fights televised opener at the Northern Quest Casino in Airway Heights, Washington.
The official time was 1:12 of the third round.
It was perhaps the most impressive win of Vlasov’s young career, icing Ravelo with a right hand midway through the third round to put the Dominican away for the full ten count. To his credit, Ravelo – a member of the 2000 Dominican Olympic boxing squad - tried his hardest to stand upright as the referee reached ten, but was in no condition to continue even if he beat the count.
Vlasov is now 18-0 (9KO) with the win, his third of 2010. Ravelo, who took the fight on short notice, falls to 20-5 (12KO). All five of his losses have come by stoppage, and it might be time to start thinking about a new line of work for the 32-year old.
