Picture this... the crazy son of a ***** is on his way to unifying the titles. (And before you start on me, Godz, I'm not totally serious, okay?
)
On the sixteenth of this month he fights British champ Matt Skelton for that title. Skelton, who got himself a "world" ranking with the WBF but relinquished it to keep the Brit belt, has a high enough rank to make the winner of this fight a December contender for Ruiz's WBA belt.
He and Danny have seven common opponents, and although Skelton's just starting his career and Danny is reaching the end of his, I believe he can do it.
So... December 2004 and Williams gets seven shades of **** knocked out of him by Klitschko. One year on and he'll get the chance to fight for the title again, albeit this time against a far less deadly opponent.
If Ruiz isn't allowed to hold, then he's still - as weird as it is to admit this - in the top 10-15% of current heavyweights, but I seriously believe Williams could take him.
So he's derided and he's got a belt. Brewster might look at it as an easy pay day and that's a pick-em fight. You can argue different issues on either side, but so far they have just one common opponent: Kali Meehan.
Brewster: 12 rounds SD
Williams: KO 32 seconds
So... Williams, come next May, is in the extraordinary position of having more pieces of the Heavyweight crown than any other fighter. Vitali's licking his chops, going "He destroyed my drim to bit Mike Tiesan" but Danny puts him on hold for Byrd.
The once elusive Byrd decides to fight upright like he's been doing of late and his speed has declined. Anyone can get hit at some stage and Danny connects. Three belts.
The rematch - Williams vs. Klitschko. No one gave a toss at the time, they give even less of one now. But Danny gets a lucky punch in.
Or the alternate ending: Klitschko has been stripped for not defending and injuries. Danny takes on the overrated Rahman (common opponent: Rahman TKO 4 Meehan) and does the job.
The Scooby Doo ending... okay, forget it.
It could happen though, couldn't it?
