ELITE FIGHTERS: How many miles do they run a day during training?
Collapse

Pure boxers who rely on constant foot movement probably run the most.
Punchers who aim to end fights quickly focus more on hand speed/ power.
Also, I doubt most heavyweights run as much as the lighter division fighters. Heavier guys are at more risk for injuries on the long runs due to the amount of pressure the weight puts on ankles, feet, etc.Comment

Running 10 miles PER DAY, or 12 or 13 - ala half marathon - as a professional fighter is downright negligent.
If you do that many miles every single day you are a dumbass as well as your trainer. The fatigue would be debilitating. You wouldn't have the energy to get through the boxing part efficiently, and you'd compromise performance as well as injure yourself.
PS. This is based on the assumption that they're doing it at once with decent spend.Comment

Zab's problems are mental not physical. That guy is always in shape and he really does 10 miles a day.He might vary a bit like all people do but 10 miles is what he does.I don't believe that. Zab wouldn't have the stamina he has if he did that everyday.
You're underestimating long distance running. Not only does it seem to build stamina to insane levels, but after a certain point it also builds mental strength
A 6 foot 1 welterweight isn't supposed to throw 1000+ punches per fight without getting tired. Tall skinny fighters are known to gas.
People don't know how important conditioning helps in taking a punch. JMM running 13 miles is insane, but also explains how he's able to do what he does.
If Hagler, Marciano, JMM, Williams are running double digits, then that's the way to go. I wouldn't be surprised if Margarito puts up double digit sessions.Comment

These guys are professional with exceptional conditioning with nutrition to suit. They have also been doing this since they were young so it's a no brainer to them.Their trainers are not dump as you claim and the fighters still train after the running. Moreover the running is not just jogging, there are sprints along the way so this really works.Running 10 miles PER DAY, or 12 or 13 - ala half marathon - as a professional fighter is downright negligent.

On another note the people who criticise running are the ones who have never run before or couldnt do it.Comment

3 miles doesnt even get you into the cardio vascular zone because you need to be in that zome for at least 20 minutes for you to start burning fat.It depends on the fighter. Some guys run 5-7 miles. I think Gatti used to run like that during training, other guys like Vitali run much less.
Tbh, running is a total waste of time past 3 miles. It doesn't help put you in "boxing" shape whatsoever and I think it needs to be phased out of hardcore boxing training. The only kinda running that helps boxing shape is sprints. But jogging for 7 miles a day is only gonna help you drop weight.
Waste of time.
Also seeing that boxing is a weight sport dont you think running is great with diet for regulating weight?Comment
